Original English guide from the CKCP tutorial centre. Check your vehicle, equipment and connector version before installation.

The source guide covers 2022–2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class 206 and describes replacement dashboard trim that integrates with the factory ambient lighting through adapter connections. Confirm the supplied trim, harness and vehicle lighting configuration before installation.

Two alternative wiring routes are shown:

  • Option 1: connect to the right front footwell light beneath the passenger-side dashboard.
  • Option 2: route the wiring through the right front door-to-body connector and connect to the right front door-panel lighting module.

The photographs show a vehicle with the passenger seat on the right. They do not establish the corresponding installation for a vehicle with a different dashboard or steering layout. Choose the route specified for the actual kit and vehicle; the two options are not instructions to connect both circuits together.

1. Product illustration

The illustration shows the replacement illuminated dashboard trim with its attached wiring. Check that its shape, clips and harness correspond to the original trim and the selected installation option.

2. Wiring layout

The dashed routes identify the right front footwell-light module and the right front door-panel lighting module. The door route includes additional male and female terminals in the door-to-body connector.

The source does not supply a numbered terminal-cavity map, circuit identification or a complete connector-to-connector wiring specification. Obtain the exact instructions for the kit before adding terminals or deciding which adapter branches connect to which circuit. An unused cavity or matching wire color alone does not establish the correct connection.

3. Access and trim replacement

The photographs below show the source vehicle's removal sequence. They identify a T20 driver, plastic trim tool, connectors and retaining clips. The vehicle power-isolation procedure, tightening values and complete refitting sequence are not provided. Obtain the applicable vehicle service procedure before disconnecting the displays or removing dashboard and door parts.

3.1 Center display and center-console frame

The source photograph sequence shows:

  1. Lifting out the chrome-finish trim at the center armrest/storage area.
  2. Releasing and removing the glossy center-console trim.
  3. Unplugging the glossy trim's connector.
  4. Removing the two screws below the center display with a T20 driver.
  5. Sliding the center display downward to disengage its locating tabs.
  6. Unplugging the center-display connectors.
  7. Releasing the harness retaining clips from the center-console frame.
  8. Removing the frame's marked retaining screws with a T20 driver. The photograph marks screws in both the upper and lower frame areas.
  9. Lifting out the center-console frame.

T20 is the tool size; it does not describe the display model.

3.2 Dashboard panel and instrument cluster

The next photograph sequence shows:

  1. Pulling out the rightmost dashboard air vent.
  2. Releasing the triangular trim at the right end of the dashboard using a plastic trim tool.
  3. Removing the trim panels on both sides of the center console.
  4. Unplugging the center-console lighting connector.
  5. Releasing the black trim at the steering column, below the instrument cluster.
  6. Removing the two screws below the instrument cluster with a T20 driver.
  7. Lifting out the instrument cluster and unplugging its connector.
  8. Releasing the dashboard trim-panel assembly.
  9. Unplugging the dashboard trim-panel connectors marked in the photograph.

3.3 Illuminated dashboard trim and original light units

The replacement part is an illuminated dashboard trim section. The source sometimes calls it the passenger-side emblem; the photographs show a long trim assembly rather than a separate badge.

The photograph sequence shows:

  1. Disconnecting the original full-width dashboard trim's light-unit connectors.
  2. Identifying the retaining clips along the trim.
  3. Releasing the trim using a plastic trim tool.
  4. Removing the original metal retaining clips and transferring them to the replacement trim.
  5. Releasing the sides of the metal clips as shown in the close-up.
  6. Releasing the light-unit holder's retaining tab at the light-guide connection.
  7. Withdrawing the complete original light unit from the light guide.
  8. Reconnecting the original light-unit plugs.
  9. Wrapping and securing the original light units in the position shown.

The source keeps the original light units connected after removing them from the light guide. Confirm the approved securing method and clearance for those units; these photographs do not specify the wrapping material or a fastening specification.

4. Select the specified wiring option

4.1 Option 1 — right front footwell-light connection

The photographs show the replacement trim installed, the wire routed behind the dashboard along the dashed line, release of the fasteners on the passenger-side lower dashboard panel, and removal of that panel from its locating slots. The final photograph identifies and unplugs the right front footwell-light connector.

This connector is inside the passenger footwell. The existing image caption's phrase “wheel well light” is an incorrect translation.

The source does not show a complete adapter-branch map for this option. Confirm the kit's footwell-light adapter connection before attaching it, and preserve the original light connection as required by that wiring specification.

The untranslated caption in the lower-panel photograph means: release and remove the fasteners securing the passenger-side lower dashboard panel.

4.2 Option 2 — body-side female-terminal access

Do not insert terminals into arbitrary unused cavities. Obtain the exact connector identities, matching cavity numbers, circuit assignments and terminal-locking procedure for this kit first.

The body-side photographs show separation of the large black front-door-to-body connector, release of its rubber wiring boot, removal of the cable tie, release of the female-terminal carrier and its locking tabs, and opening of the carrier from the side. The added wire is routed along the existing harness to the connector.

The final photograph says to add female terminals in empty cavities and match their wire colors to the male side. It provides no numbered cavity map. The colors in this photograph are not a universal vehicle wiring specification.

4.3 Option 2 — door-side male-terminal access

The door-side photographs show:

  1. Pressing the retaining tab and pushing the connector inward to release it.
  2. Bringing the connector out along the factory wiring.
  3. Releasing the door harness rubber boot.
  4. Bringing the connector out through the boot opening.
  5. Releasing the marked housing clips to separate the housing and male-terminal carrier.
  6. Removing the carrier for wire access.
  7. The added terminal leads beside the carrier.
  8. Routing the added leads along the factory harness.
  9. Releasing the purple terminal-locking clip.
  10. Adding the male terminals at the matching empty positions identified by the kit instructions.

The source photograph does not number those positions. Confirm the exact male/female cavity pairing and circuit before insertion; do not rely on color matching alone. Confirm how the locking clips, connector housing and rubber boot must be restored after the work.

Door-side connector and male-terminal carrier photographs

The image caption “Card-ejecting” refers to releasing the connector housing's retaining clips.

4.4 Option 2 — right front door-panel lighting module

The source shows the trim installed, the wiring concealed along the dashed dashboard route, and the added door wiring bundled and secured. It then shows a one-to-two adapter connection and a separate module/harness illustration indicating that the module controls the added lighting.

Use the adapter and module layout specified for the supplied kit. The photograph is an overview and does not identify every connector branch or pin. It does not substitute for the missing cavity map or complete refitting instructions.

6. Troubleshooting

  1. The added dashboard trim does not illuminate. With the footwell-light option, check whether the factory right front footwell light displays ambient-light colors and whether the specified adapter is connected correctly. With the door-module option, check the door-to-body terminal alignment against the verified cavity map and confirm that the factory right front door ambient lighting operates normally.
  2. Factory ambient lighting behaves abnormally. Check the adapter and confirm that the original light-unit connectors have been restored. The source recommends locking the vehicle and allowing it to sleep for 10 minutes. This is a troubleshooting suggestion, not a guarantee that the fault will clear.
  3. The center-display touchscreen does not respond. The source recommends locking the vehicle and allowing it to sleep for 10 minutes. A persistent fault requires further diagnosis; do not assume the screen or connector is correctly restored because the waiting period has elapsed.
  4. Single-color control behaves abnormally. The source describes a value at the far right of the single-color bar that remains at 0 during adjustment; it gives the normal range as 1–64. It suggests trying voice control to change the ambient-light color or using diagnostic equipment to perform ambient-light addressing. The required diagnostic tool and addressing procedure are not supplied. Have that operation performed using the correct procedure for the vehicle and lighting configuration.
