Vehicle and connection requirements
The original guide identifies 2022–2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class 206 and GLC 254 vehicles that have factory ambient lighting but lack illuminated rear air vents. The product photograph is labeled for the 2022 C-Class 206 and describes 64-color lighting. Confirm the exact vehicle, factory lighting equipment, and kit version; that photograph does not establish compatibility with every GLC 254 or a vehicle without factory ambient lighting.
The source describes a replacement-style upgrade with no programming required for its intended application. The photographs illustrate the rear center-console vent assembly; they do not demonstrate programming status or all lighting functions on every vehicle.
Choose the connection method before routing the harness:
- Illuminated front vents already installed: The source instructs routing the rear-vent lighting lead along a concealed side path and connecting it to the front-vent lighting harness. Confirm that the existing front-vent kit and the new rear-vent harness are compatible. This means the lighting harness, not an air duct or an unidentified factory terminal.
- Rear illuminated vents installed on their own: The source requires a separate driver module. Figure 2 places this module at the right-front footwell-light connection. Confirm the module and matching connectors specified for this kit; Figure 1 does not identify a separate module among its pictured parts.
Figure 2 includes an earlier wiring photograph with exposed joined wires and a blue connector. Its caption states that later versions use plug-in mating connectors. The photo is not a pinout or an instruction to copy those wire joints. The source does not specify voltage, terminal numbers, a splice method, or the complete electrical preparation procedure; obtain the exact kit connection instructions before making electrical connections.
Pictured parts
Figure 1. Item 01 is the pair of illuminated rear vents. Item 02 is the rear-vent lighting harness. The pictured harness is distinct from the separate driver module required for the standalone installation described above.
Rear center-console vent replacement
Figure 2. Footwell/module routing reference, rear vent-panel removal, four T20 fixing screws, trim-ring replacement, and the side locating feature. “FW” means footwell light. The small “FW mod.” label identifies the module location in the diagram.
- Open the center-console storage compartment. The source uses a word normally meaning glove box, but the photograph shows the storage compartment under the center armrest. Use the pictured console location, not the passenger-side dashboard glove box.
- Release the rear vent panel horizontally toward the rear seats. The first photograph shows rearward arrows at the console opening; the next photograph marks two points above the rear vents. Apply the release motion at the marked positions on the illustrated assembly. Do not substitute an upward motion or pull on the vent louvers. Confirm the clip-release method if the actual trim differs from the photograph.
- Inspect the panel retaining clips. The following rear-view photograph marks four clips: two at the top and one on each lower side. Avoid damaging these clips when separating or handling the panel. These are panel clips, distinct from the vent fixing screws and the trim-ring tabs shown later.
- Remove the four T20 fixing screws. The source explicitly specifies T20 × 4. The circles identify the two inner and two outer fastening locations on the rear of the vent assembly. Keep these screws for the corresponding refitting step; no tightening torque is supplied in the source.
- Remove the original rear vents and their chrome trim rings. The photograph shows the two original vent units separated from the panel. The next photograph marks the trim-ring retaining points, four around each opening. Release and replace the rings according to the matching parts supplied for the kit. The source does not explain each tab’s release direction, so do not force a tab whose release method is unclear.
- Fit the illuminated rear vent units and refasten the four screws. Match the illustrated positions and confirm that both units sit correctly in the panel. The last close-up marks a side locating pin/tab; this is a mechanical alignment feature, not an electrical terminal. Align the matching locating feature before tightening. Use the approved refitting specification for the exact parts, since the source gives no torque or screw-length specification.
- Route and connect the lighting harness using the selected branch above. The diagram shows a concealed route along the side of the console toward the right-front footwell module for the standalone arrangement. For an existing compatible illuminated-front-vent kit, use the source’s front-vent lighting-harness connection instead. Do not treat the two branches as interchangeable or make a connection solely from wire colors in the earlier photo.
- Check lighting and vent movement before and after refitting. Keep the lead clear of panel clips, screw locations, and the louver mechanism. Using the vehicle and kit’s confirmed testing procedure, check both rear lights, color consistency, and adjustment through the applicable lighting controls. Operate both vent louvers through their normal range and check that they close without interference. Refit the panel with its locating features and clips correctly engaged, then repeat the lighting and mechanical checks.
The photographs do not provide a full vehicle power-isolation/reconnection procedure, the detailed front-vent connection or module pinout, or a complete model-specific refitting and diagnostic acceptance procedure. These details must be confirmed for the exact vehicle and supplied kit. The checks above are tasks to perform, not evidence that this installation has already passed them.
Troubleshooting
- One vent shows a different color: Check for a loose light-head connection and reseat the plug using the confirmed electrical preparation procedure. If the light heads and connectors are confirmed interchangeable, compare the suspect component at a matching position to isolate the fault. Replace a confirmed defective light head if necessary.
- The rear vents do not match the front vents: Check the main-harness connection for a loose or displaced terminal and reseat the matching connector. Replace a defective connecting lead if necessary. Do not guess a terminal position from the wiring photograph.
- Both rear vents fail to illuminate: Check the harness route for pinching or damage that may have caused a short circuit. Confirm that the module and matching factory connectors are fully seated. Replace a confirmed defective harness or module if necessary.
- A vent louver cannot close: Check whether the lighting lead obstructs the louver mechanism. Remove and inspect the rear vent assembly and its louver installation, correct the routing or installation problem, and replace a defective illuminated rear vent assembly if necessary.
- The issue remains: Contact your CKCP sales representative for technical support. Include the vehicle model, model year, factory lighting configuration, front-vent kit status, rear-vent kit version, and the relevant step or image number.
Help improve this guide: If a step is unclear or differs on your vehicle, please leave a comment with the step or image number, vehicle model, model year, and market/region. The CKCP team will review the correction before publishing it.
