Application and assembly location
The archived tutorial describes an illuminated glasses-compartment kit for the 2016–2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 213 with factory ambient lighting. It claims that the added lighting follows the factory ambient-lighting function. The product is fitted to the front overhead console in the roof, above the rear-view mirror. The source footage shows the original roof-console assembly being removed and its trim/carrier transferred to the replacement illuminated cover.
The stated year range and the product image's 64-colour label are source descriptions. They do not confirm every body style, roof-console version, steering layout, factory lighting package, audio system or previous retrofit. Confirm the actual console, supplied harnesses and vehicle equipment before selecting a connection branch. Coding requirements and full lighting compatibility remain unverified.
Product image and numbered parts
The numbers below follow the source image. They identify parts, not connector pin positions.
- Illuminated cover: the perforated replacement cover for the overhead glasses-compartment assembly.
- Speakers: the pair of small round speakers shown in the kit image.
- Light-unit extension harness: the long multicolour lead used to extend the lighting connection.
- Cover adapter harness: the short wrapped harness with the illustrated light-unit connectors.
- Speaker harness: the speaker connection lead shown separately in the image.
The installation footage also shows a lighting module. The five-part image does not label that module as an additional numbered component or provide its connector pinout. Check the supplied kit against the exact instructions for that module.
Plastic trim tools, a screwdriver and harness-wrapping material are visible in the source. Terminal release and connector work are also shown. The footage includes a cutter being used on a connector housing; that observation is not permission to cut a connector on another kit or vehicle. Tool sizes, fastener torque, terminal specifications and an approved trimming drawing are not supplied.
Existing installation videos
The two retained links are the existing media for this archive. Both sampled source sequences show installation, followed by a brief view of the illuminated overhead cover. Neither is established as a separate completed-effect test.
Version 002 is connected in the saved source archive to the original installation article. Version 001 retains its existing source/render binding; its connection to the original article still needs confirmation. The original external article identifiers are retained in the review evidence for this archive reference.
The existing English videos remain under language review. They contain a wrong audio-system brand in the connection branch, repeated or mistimed captions, and untranslated Chinese stage labels. Use the source-grounded navigation below to locate the relevant action; the current narration and subtitles are not a verified pinout or technical installation specification.
Source-video navigation
Times refer approximately to source-linked version 002. These are navigation notes for the demonstrated assembly, not a complete workshop method. Electrical isolation, clip locations, connector assignments and clearance checks require confirmed vehicle-specific instructions.
-
Around 00:16–00:42 — release the original overhead assembly. The installer uses a plastic trim tool at the front roof-console area and then works on the rear of the removed assembly. Support the assembly and identify its original connectors and retainers. The footage does not establish a universal pry direction or complete clip map for all consoles.
-
Around 00:42–01:18 — transfer the original trim/carrier. Clips are released on the original console and the illustrated trim/carrier is transferred to the replacement cover. Keep the original console components identifiable. Confirm how the replacement retains the factory lamp and switch assembly before refitting it.
-
Around 01:18–01:51 — fit the kit's speakers and lighting lead. The source shows the backs of the supplied speakers and the routed lighting lead on the replacement assembly. Match the actual kit connectors and their retention features. The visible lead colours do not establish polarity, terminal numbers or a universal wiring map.
-
Around 02:28 — secure the demonstrated cover assembly. Two screw locations and the rear harness are visible. Retain the relevant original parts and secure the harness as specified for the supplied assembly. The archive does not state a fastener size, torque or complete retaining-point inspection.
-
Around 03:25 — refit the overhead console. The source shows the assembled console being returned to the roof opening. Confirm that the assembly is properly retained and that the glasses compartment, reading lights and switches remain operable. The roof-to-footwell harness route and its relationship to airbags or other vehicle wiring need separate verification.
-
Around 04:40–05:18 — locate the right front footwell-light connection and module. The source works at the right front footwell light, then shows the lighting module and its connectors. Around 04:56, the installer trims part of a black connector's plastic housing. Obtain the exact approved connector modification and fitment instructions before repeating that action; do not guess the cut location, dimensions or electrical connections.
-
Around 05:18–05:35 — connect and secure the lighting components. The source shows the module, lighting lead and wrapped connectors. Identify the intended connector pairings on the actual kit, protect any unused lead according to confirmed instructions, and secure the module without creating a pinch or interference point. Exact electrical protection and mounting requirements remain to be supplied.
-
Around 06:50–10:11 — follow the demonstrated door-speaker branch only for the matching audio configuration. The footage shows the door/body connector being released, its secondary lock and terminals being handled, a lead passed through the door wiring boot, and an adapter at the original right front door midrange speaker. This sequence does not provide a verified numbered terminal diagram. Do not choose cavities by wire colour, approximate position or the English video's ambiguous wording. Obtain the confirmed body/door connector map and retention method first.
-
Around 10:11–10:32 — distinguish the alternative speaker connection. The written source specifies the centre speaker for vehicles with factory or retrofitted Burmester speakers, and the right front door midrange speaker when Burmester is absent. Confirm which configuration is actually present. The English video's different brand name is an unresolved translation error; it must not be used to select the harness branch.
-
Around 10:27–10:59 — distinguish the brief illumination view from final acceptance. A blue/purple illuminated overhead cover is visible, followed by door-panel reassembly and a closing instruction to test the function. This is not proof that all lighting modes, speaker functions or original controls passed testing. Confirm the restored console and door functions, harness retention, sound and lighting behaviour before treating the installation as complete.
Troubleshooting from the written source
-
Added ambient lighting does not turn on. Check whether the module is connected at the correct right front footwell-light position, and whether terminals are loose or not fully seated. If the connections are correct and the lighting remains off, the source says to close all four doors and adjust colour and brightness in the vehicle's ambient-lighting menu to activate it. The archive does not provide menu screenshots, electrical measurements or a confirmed diagnostic test sequence for each vehicle variant.
-
The added speakers produce no sound. Check the connection branch against the actual vehicle audio equipment. With factory or retrofitted Burmester speakers, the written source calls for connection to the centre speaker. Without Burmester, it calls for the right front door midrange speaker. This does not establish impedance, polarity or a numbered pinout. Confirm the supplied adapter and vehicle circuit before changing connections.
-
The issue remains unresolved. Contact the manufacturer's technical support with the archive reference, actual vehicle and audio equipment, kit details, connection photographs and the affected step. A verified support contact and a complete test protocol are still needed.
Effect demonstration and release status
The archived effect-video link contains no article identifier, and the separate result-display section contains no additional evidence. The brief illuminated-cover view inside the installation footage does not replace that missing demonstration or functional acceptance.
Local preparation status: HOLD. This text restores source-supported information. The two existing English videos still need correction and continuous playback/listening review; vehicle-specific electrical, mechanical and functional acceptance remain open.
