This source describes illuminated vents intended to follow the factory ambient-lighting system. Confirm the vehicle and supplied kit before using its installation sequence: the article title specifies models before 2020, the original introduction says 2016–2020, and the product image and video title say 2016–2022. These conflicting ranges have not been resolved into verified fitment.

Product overview

Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213 Illuminated Front and Rear Vent Installation Guide — Source Version Before 2020 — image 1

The source image shows the front-vent kit, with three numbered component groups:

  1. Front air vents: two large outer vents and two paired center assemblies, making six front vent outlets.
  2. Module power harness.
  3. Module.

This image identifies the front components. It does not provide a complete rear-vent parts list or a legible module specification. The source video separately demonstrates the rear assembly, adjustment mechanism, supplied brackets and silver trim rings.

Tools shown in the source

The opening tools card shows a flathead screwdriver, T20 driver, plastic trim tool, harness tape and a wire-threading strip. The threading strip is a routing tool; the English video's term “double wire” should not be treated as a separate electrical part.

Wiring information needed

The original article's wiring-diagram section is empty. An approved diagram for the exact vehicle and kit, terminal assignments, module identity and power-isolation procedure are still required. Connector names in the video do not establish terminal polarity or a wiring pinout.

At approximately 11:35–11:41, the source shows modifying a connector housing to fit the footwell-light connection. The permitted modification area and its electrical and mechanical implications are not documented. Do not use the video's general instruction to trim a connector as an approved modification procedure.

Installation video and source sequence

English video

The exact archived installation source is WX-0012, local video 267, video identity wxv_3713786916693426184, bound to this tutorial. The English copy retains this source footage. Its subtitles and narration contain terminology and timing errors that remain under review. The following summary restores source-supported actions; it is not technical installation approval.

  1. Front display and dashboard trim — approximately 0:10–2:05. The demonstration inserts a plastic trim tool into a suitable gap around the display cover, lifts the cover, removes the exposed screws and releases the display retaining points with flathead tools. It disconnects the display connectors, then removes the long dashboard trim, disconnecting its lamp and switch leads. The opening English instruction to start “from the foot area” misidentifies the location.
  2. Front vent removal and harness routing — approximately 2:06–4:03. Release the two large outer vents at their trim gaps. Identify the supplied vent harness and its long left/right lamp branches. The source routes the module connection toward the right front footwell light, and uses a wire-threading strip to bring lamp leads out at the outer vent openings and along the dashboard. “Corner lamp” in the English video refers to the footwell light in this source.
  3. Center vent replacement — approximately 4:05–6:06. Remove the three screws and release the retaining hooks on each paired center assembly as demonstrated. Release the original adjustment knob and linkage, and transfer the original control rod to the replacement vent. Refit the replacement to its bracket and reinstall its screws; the source also shows a supplied self-tapping screw. No torque or universal fastener specification is supplied.
  4. Front reassembly — approximately 6:07–7:51. Reconnect the original lamp leads and the newly routed vent lamp leads. Refit the dashboard trim, display and cover, keeping the leads arranged as shown. Connect each large outer vent lamp lead and align the vent's locating tab with its matching opening before seating it.
  5. Rear console vent removal — approximately 7:54–8:50. Insert the plastic trim tool at the top of the rear vent trim and release it outward. On the removed assembly, the source identifies four retaining clips, with upper and lower release points. Remove the original bright trim rings. These trim parts are distinct from retaining clips.
  6. Rear control mechanism and bracket — approximately 8:50–10:04. Use a flathead screwdriver to release the adjustment-knob retaining points and transfer the mechanism. Keep the spring in place and refit it. The supplied brackets have different vehicle markings; the demonstrated choice is the bracket marked 213, not the English video's “214213.” Align its retaining features and the replacement vent before seating the parts, then attach the lamp lead.
  7. Rear trim and harness routing — approximately 10:08–11:10. Fit the supplied silver trim rings by aligning their clips and corresponding openings. Refit the rear vent assembly. Route its lead along the console side toward the front footwell-light area as shown. The English narration at about 10:55 jumps prematurely to footwell screws while the picture is still seating the rear assembly.
  8. Module and front/rear harness arrangement — approximately 11:10–12:27. The source removes the footwell panel and demonstrates the footwell-light adapter and module connection. It calls the module connector 5P, not “5B.” For the demonstrated combined front/rear kit, the rear harness has a male and a female connector: it is inserted at the module connection formerly occupied by the front-vent harness, and the front-vent harness connects to the remaining rear-harness connector. This describes the demonstrated kit's mating order, not a generic permission to splice wires or assign terminals. Confirm the exact diagram and the configuration below before electrical work.

Troubleshooting from the original article

  1. Factory ambient lighting, with no added illuminated front products: the article says the illuminated rear vents need a separate driving module. Confirm the matching module and wiring for the specific rear kit.
  2. Factory ambient lighting, with illuminated front vents already added: the article says the rear-vent harness connects to the added front-vent system. Confirm that the existing front system matches this rear harness and module; this is a separate configuration from item 1.
  3. Rear vent colors differ from the factory ambient lighting: select red, green and blue individually and observe the affected vent. The article identifies a missing individual color as a lamp-head fault and calls for replacement. No exact color-synchronization or coding procedure is provided.
  4. All rear vents remain dark: inspect whether the main connector is loose and whether the harness connections match the approved diagram. The article also asks whether joined-wire terminals are correct, but supplies no terminal map. Do not infer terminals from wire colors or the video connector name.

Results and review status

The original results link does not identify a specific results article or clip. The source ending describes completing the connection and lighting the rear vents, but the reviewed evidence does not document a complete front/rear color, brightness, air-direction, adjustment, display, switch and trim-retention acceptance test.

Local status: HOLD. Vehicle-year scope, the complete rear-kit specification, electrical and mechanical technical confirmation, video translation corrections, uninterrupted playback/listening and documented functional results remain open before this can be treated as an installation-ready tutorial.
