Vehicle and kit scope

The archived written tutorial and installation video identify the Mercedes-Benz CLA118, model years 2020–2024. The original product image instead says 2020–2025. This difference remains unresolved; the image is not sufficient to confirm 2025 fitment. Confirm the vehicle year, equipment and supplied kit before using this procedure.

The source describes replacement installation using adapter harnesses and describes compatibility with factory or retrofitted ambient lighting. It does not specify which aftermarket lighting systems are supported, a coding procedure, or the conditions that trigger tweeter rotation. These details need confirmation for the actual vehicle and kit.

Product image and component guide

CLA118 4D rotating tweeter assemblies, drive modules and adapter harnesses

The numbered groups in the original product image are:

  1. A pair of 4D rotating tweeter assemblies.
  2. A pair of rotary drive modules.
  3. Adapter harnesses.
  4. Speaker adapter harnesses.

The English image's “Horn Adapter Cable” label refers to the speaker adapter harness, not the vehicle horn. The printed module label and harness tags must remain readable when identifying the supplied parts. A generic model list on a module label does not establish CLA118 fitment by itself.

Tools shown in the source video

  • T30 driver for the two door-panel screws shown in the demonstration.
  • Plastic trim-removal tool for releasing the door-panel clips.

The T30 marking is visible in the original video. The current English subtitle's “T3L” is a transcription error. The source does not provide screw torque values or a complete electrical isolation procedure.

Installation sequence shown in the source

The following steps describe this video's demonstrated door and kit. The opposite door, different equipment and different harness revisions require their own confirmation. Times refer approximately to the original 2 minute 34 second film.

  1. 00:18–00:40 — Remove the two door-panel screws. The presenter identifies two screws at the lower part of the door panel and uses the T30 driver. Keep the screws for refitting.
  2. 00:40–01:02 — Release the door-panel clips. Use the plastic trim tool at the demonstrated edge, then release the clips and move the panel outward. The presenter explains that the entire panel does not need to be taken away. The panel remains close to the door with its connections attached in this demonstration; this is not an instruction to pull against the wiring.
  3. 01:02–01:11 — Identify the rotating-tweeter adapter harness. The presenter shows its connectors and the large blue connector. Match the supplied harness and the exact factory connection shown before proceeding.
  4. 01:11–01:25 — Insert the adapter into the demonstrated factory connection. Disconnect the factory plug identified in the film as “connector 6.” Mate that removed factory plug with the matching adapter end, then insert the adapter's replacement end into the original connection. “Connector 6” is the film's identification of that connection; it is not a pin assignment or a universal socket number for all CLA118 vehicles.
  5. 01:25–01:41 — Connect the tweeter harness ends. The presenter identifies the remaining five-wire and three-wire connections, then mates each with its matching connector on the rotating-tweeter assembly. The source describes wire counts; it does not provide a connector pinout or authorize repinning.
  6. 01:43–01:54 — Fit the mounting points and secure the module. Engage the two mounting corners shown, hook the assembly into its demonstrated position, and secure the module at the location indicated in the film. The video does not specify a fastening method or a universal module mounting location.
  7. 01:54–02:18 — Refit the trim and check the rotating assembly's clearance. Refit the demonstrated adjacent trim first, then position the tweeter trim. Engage the hook so the assembly sits against the upper mounting surface. The presenter specifically warns against the rotating assembly pressing against the surrounding trim.
  8. 02:18–02:30 — Check the mounting supports. The presenter points out that the rear area is open and identifies two supports underneath. Seat the demonstrated mounting points together. The source says the assembly relies primarily on this position; it does not identify a “left side” mounting rule.
  9. 02:30–02:34 — Refit the door panel and screws, then check function. The original closing instruction refers to the door panel, not reinstalling the module. The film asks for a function check but does not document a complete successful rotation, lighting and audio acceptance test.

Connection and function details that still need confirmation

The archived wiring-diagram section contains no diagram. The inline-adapter sequence above is supported by the film, but there is no documented voltage, fuse specification, wire polarity, pin assignment, coding setting or DIP-switch setting for this kit. Do not infer these from connector color, a generic module label or a tutorial for another chassis.

Before treating the installation as complete, obtain the kit-specific procedure for rotation triggers, lighting control and audio operation, together with the vehicle-specific refitting and electrical checks. The source's statement about factory and retrofitted ambient lighting does not establish compatibility with every lighting retrofit.

Documented checks and troubleshooting limits

The source supports checking the exact adapter connection, engagement of the demonstrated hook and lower supports, module security, and clearance around the rotating assembly. It supplies no fault-specific troubleshooting steps: the archived troubleshooting section contains only an empty first item. A failure to rotate, illuminate or produce audio therefore needs the actual vehicle/kit details and a verified remedy; no fault code or workaround is provided here.

The linked film is the locally archived CLA118 4D installation video associated with this tutorial. It covers door-panel removal, harness connection and refitting. Its present English subtitles include the tool-name, connector-sequence and final door-panel errors described above, and its Chinese on-screen captions remain visible. The written corrections above do not mean the video has been corrected or fully checked by listening through it.
