Vehicle and product scope
This guide concerns illuminated metal tweeter covers that connect to the factory ambient-lighting system. It describes replacing the cover and connecting its lighting harness; it does not establish an acoustic upgrade or describe a rotating-tweeter mechanism.
The archived written source identifies 2020–2024 GLE / GLS 167. Its product diagram identifies 2020–2022 GLE / GLS W167, while the exact linked installation video's introduction identifies GLE, 2019–2025. These different statements have not been reconciled. The demonstrated installation is on a GLE; GLS installation and coverage outside the diagram's years require confirmation for the specific vehicle and supplied kit. Do not treat the video's wider year range as verified fitment.
The source describes synchronization with the factory ambient-light colors and adapter connections. It provides no pinout, load rating or complete coding procedure. The module shown in the video is marked GLE/GLS/167, HU6/HU7, CKCP V1.0, 2025/01/07 and refers to vehicles with factory ambient lighting. This identifies the demonstrated module, rather than proving every HU6/HU7 configuration is supported.
Product diagram and kit identifiers
The numbered items in the original diagram are:
- 01 — Illuminated tweeter covers: the illustrated left and right metal covers. The original heading describes 64-color illumination.
- 02 — Module adapter harnesses: the illustrated harnesses with factory-style inline connectors and a module connection.
- 03 — Control modules: the two illustrated lighting-control modules.
- 04 — Extension cables: the two illustrated lighting extension leads.
These are kit identifiers. Item 02 is not a vehicle pin number. The No. 6 connection discussed below is a numbered connector on the demonstrated factory door-control module; it is not electrical pin 6 and is separate from the kit's 01–04 labels.
The chapter times below refer to the original source picture in this same video. Its present English subtitles and narration need correction: they omit the opening fastener-cover steps, misname the door-control module and drift ahead of the visible actions. Use the written navigation to locate the demonstrated operation. It is not a substitute for an approved vehicle-specific electrical procedure.
The demonstrated tools include a plastic trim tool and a T30 driver. The source shows two T30 screws beneath the removed trim covers. It does not provide tightening torques, a vehicle power-isolation procedure, restraint precautions or a complete final function test. These remain required technical checks before a customer installation can be approved.
1. Remove the two trim covers and expose the door-panel screws — 00:13–00:46
Use the plastic trim tool at the positions demonstrated around the door pull. Release the first plastic cover, then the second cover beneath the pull; the demonstrator notes that the second is harder to release. Insert the tool at the shown edge and pull the clipped cover outward. The original on-screen caption identifies two T30 screws, one at each demonstrated location. Remove these two screws to release the door panel's screw attachments.
The current English opening repeats “Original tweeter cover install tutorial” for the first 24 seconds and does not explain the first cover removal. The tool positions and two covers are visible in the source; they should not be omitted from the written sequence.
2. Release the door panel and its connectors — 00:46–00:59
With the screws removed, insert the trim tool at the demonstrated side of the door panel and release the panel outward. The demonstrator then removes the panel and disconnects its electrical connectors. Follow the individual connector releases shown for the actual vehicle; the source does not identify every connector, a pinout or a separate door-latch procedure.
3. Replace the plastic tweeter cover — 00:59–01:19
Release the clips holding the original plastic tweeter cover and remove the cover. Take the illuminated metal replacement cover, feed its lighting lead downward through the opening shown, align the cover and press it into the demonstrated position.
This step concerns the cover and lighting lead. It does not authorize replacing the speaker or borrowing connections from a rotating-tweeter kit.
4. Understand the demonstrated stand-off gap — 01:20–01:28
The source explains that the replacement cover's raised rear lighting base creates a visible gap. For the demonstrated part, this stand-off is described as normal. That explanation is not a measurement or acceptance limit for any loose, distorted or incorrectly clipped cover; the source provides no maximum gap specification.
5. Connect the cover lead and module adapter — 01:29–01:57
Locate the demonstrated white male/female connector pair and the kit control module. Open the module housing. The source refers to the two connector ends and a 4P connector at the module; connect the demonstrated matching lead at the shown module connection. Insulate the unused connector as shown.
Next, connect the module adapter harness's 5P connector to the demonstrated module side, then close the module housing. The current English phrase “our two-pin into the 4-pin” is not a verified cavity assignment: the Chinese refers to two connector heads before identifying a 4P connector. Neither this wording nor the sampled view establishes a pin-to-pin map. Confirm the exact supplied harness and module revision before making this connection.
6. Insert the adapter at door-control connector No. 6 and secure the module — 01:59–02:18
The source shows the blue adapter connector at the factory door-control module's No. 6 connection. Connect the adapter inline at the demonstrated location, reconnect the corresponding factory plug and secure the kit module. The factory module's printed 6 is visible beside the connection in the source close-up.
The Chinese term is “door-control module”; the current English “door latch module” is inaccurate. The source also mentions chaining adapters at this location. That is a wired adapter connection, not “wireless tapping.” Its assertion that any number can be added is not supported by a current rating, load calculation or permitted accessory list. Do not use it as authorization to connect unlimited accessories; the permitted combination requires confirmation.
Troubleshooting from the written source
All illuminated covers are off
The source gives these checks:
- Check whether the factory door-panel ambient lighting is also off.
- Lock the vehicle and allow it to sleep for 10 minutes.
- The source then calls for ambient-light bus address learning. It provides no tool, exact menu, prerequisites or vehicle-specific procedure; obtain the applicable confirmed procedure before performing it.
- Check that the adapter at connector No. 6 is firmly seated.
- Restore the factory No. 6 connection and check whether the original ambient lighting works normally.
These are the source's diagnostic directions, not a confirmed diagnosis or proof that address learning is needed for every installation. Vehicle isolation, fault handling and reconnection precautions are not supplied.
One illuminated cover is off
The source suggests swapping in a known-working No. 6 adapter connector to see whether the cover lights. If it lights, the source attributes the problem to the substituted adapter connection. It then begins “compare the No. 6 connector” and stops. No comparison criteria, pinout or further repair procedure is present. Do not invent the missing ending or infer a wire repair from this unfinished branch.
Demonstration and completion limits
The written source's effects section contains no separate effect image or additional video. The installation clip ends after the module is secured. It does not demonstrate a complete door-panel refit, final fastener torque, door-function test, diagnostic scan or a full synchronized-color check. Those completion steps still need verified instructions and acceptance evidence.
Review required before release
Resolve the conflicting model-year statements and confirm GLS applicability, factory ambient-light configuration and the exact module/harness revision. Verify No. 6 connector identity and the 4P/5P connection details for the supplied kit, isolation/reconnection procedure, approved accessory loading and address-learning method. Complete refit and function-test guidance.
The present image uses awkward “LED High-Frequency Cover Plate” wording; use “illuminated tweeter cover” consistently. The English video still contains Chinese graphics/captions, omits the opening trim-cover steps, reduces T30 to “T-screws,” turns door control into door latch, misreads two connector heads as two pins and incorrectly says “wirelessly.” English captions and narration also run ahead of several visible actions; same-sentence split endings remain present but need a timing/readability check. The media requires correction and continuous audiovisual review, including actual listening. Local browser page validation and vehicle-specific technical acceptance remain outstanding.
