This guide describes the illuminated door midrange speaker covers archived as CKCP source archive. The source describes matching the factory ambient-lighting colors through an adapter harness. It shows replacement of the cover and its backing assembly; it does not demonstrate a speaker upgrade or a measured improvement in sound quality.

Vehicle and kit identification

The archived text names 2020–2024 GLE167 / GLS167. The product image says 2020–2022 GLE / GLS W167, while the installation video's opening card says GLE, 2019–2025. These source ranges disagree. Confirm the vehicle year, door trim, factory ambient-lighting equipment and exact kit before treating any of these ranges as verified fitment. The demonstrated door is from a GLE; the GLS-specific installation and equipment differences are not separately established here.

The source's plug-in connection claim concerns the wiring adapter. The cover replacement also shows cutting original plastic retaining points and replacing that fastening arrangement with supplied screws. This mechanical modification is not a fully reversible clip-only installation.

Product image and component key

Illuminated speaker covers, adapter harnesses and fixing screws

Use the original image numbering:

  1. 01 — Illuminated speaker covers. The image shows four cover assemblies in two shapes. Match each assembly to its door; the source does not label each door position individually.
  2. 02 — Cover adapter harnesses. The image shows blue mating connectors and branches for the cover lighting. Connector color alone does not establish pin assignments or electrical compatibility.
  3. 03 — Fixing screws. The supplied screws replace the original backing-bracket fastening points shown in the video. Screw dimensions, quantity per cover and tightening torque are not specified.

The image's “64-color” description is a source product claim. It does not establish that every color and every factory lighting mode has been tested on the vehicle shown.

Installation video and navigation

The linked video belongs to this archived midrange-cover guide. The English version still contains translation errors: it calls the model “Mercedes 9116 zone,” calls the source's T30 screws “T3,” and adds an instruction to pull the door panel with a foot. Use the source-backed written sequence below for those points. The original Chinese captions and chapter bar remain in the current video.

Approximate sections in the source recording:

  1. 00:00–00:11: vehicle, kit and tools.
  2. 00:11–00:58: door-panel access and removal.
  3. 00:58–02:08: cover, liner and backing-bracket replacement.
  4. 02:08–02:28: adapter-harness and lamp connection.

Tools and demonstrated procedure

The tool card shows a plastic trim tool, a T30 driver and a flat-blade screwdriver. Cutting pliers are also visibly used on the original plastic retaining points. Confirm the actual fastening arrangement before cutting; the source does not provide a complete vehicle-specific removal or tightening specification.

  1. Release the two small plastic covers at the door pull handle — approximately 00:11–00:34. The installer inserts a plastic trim tool at their edges and releases the covers. These removable access pieces are different from the plastic retaining points cut later behind the speaker cover.

  2. Remove the two T30 screws — approximately 00:34–00:43. The original caption explicitly says T30. The current English video's “T3” is a mistranslation. Keep the removed screws for the matching refit positions; no tightening torque is supplied here.

  3. Release the door trim panel — approximately 00:43–00:55. The installer inserts the trim tool at the panel edge, pulls the panel outward and disconnects the associated connectors after opening access. The original caption says to pull the door panel outward; it does not instruct pulling it with a foot. Connector and latch details are not fully documented in the source.

  4. Access the decorative trim from the back of the removed panel — approximately 00:58–01:07. Lay the panel down as demonstrated, locate the rear of the decorative trim and remove the screws securing that trim. Keep this decorative piece separate from the metal speaker cover and its backing bracket.

  5. Separate the original cover assembly — approximately 01:07–01:15. The installer uses cutting pliers on the original plastic retaining points. The captions also refer to removing the original “weld points” before lifting out the assembly. Cutting these points changes the original mounting; do not treat this step as simply unclipping reusable fasteners. The source does not specify the exact cut positions or restoration method for every trim version.

  6. Separate the metal cover and remove the original black liner — approximately 01:15–01:25. Release the metal cover's retaining tabs from its backing bracket. Remove the original black pad shown behind the cover. The source calls this material “cotton”; its composition is not verified, so it is described here as a liner or pad.

  7. Fit the white replacement liner — approximately 01:25–01:34. Position the supplied white pad behind the metal cover and align it to the cover's shape. Keep it flat rather than folded or pushed upward.

  8. Fit the replacement backing bracket and cover — approximately 01:34–01:48. Clip the new bracket and metal cover together as shown. Check the liner's seating while engaging the retaining tabs so it does not become wrinkled or displaced.

  9. Mount the assembly back into the decorative trim — approximately 01:48–02:08. Align the backing bracket's screw holes and secure it using the supplied fixing screws. The source says the old weld points are no longer used. Refit the decorative assembly as demonstrated; a complete door-panel refit sequence is not shown.

  10. Connect the lighting adapter — approximately 02:08–02:23. The blue adapter harness is described as mating with the factory connector identified in this source as No. 6. Connect the adapter's lighting branch to the cover's lamp connector. “No. 6” is a source connector label, not a statement that the plug has six pins. The source says this demonstrated kit takes the factory signal directly without an additional lighting module; do not apply that claim to a different kit or vehicle configuration.

  11. Proceed to testing — approximately 02:23–02:28. The installer connects the two mating plugs and says to test next. The recording ends without a documented final refit, color sweep or verified test result. The instruction to test is not evidence that the lighting, door functions or finished installation passed inspection.

Troubleshooting from the archived text

All illuminated covers are off

The source lists this sequence:

  1. Check whether the factory door-panel ambient lighting is also off.
  2. Lock the vehicle and allow it to sleep for 10 minutes.
  3. Perform the source's ambient-lighting light-source bus address-learning procedure.
  4. Check that the No. 6 adapter harness connector is securely connected.
  5. Restore the original No. 6 connection and check whether the factory ambient lighting operates normally.

The archive does not include the bus address-learning instructions, required diagnostic equipment or supported lighting-system version. Obtain that procedure for this exact kit and vehicle before attempting the learning step. This list is a source troubleshooting sequence, not a verified repair result for every all-off condition.

One illuminated cover is off

  1. Substitute a known-good No. 6 adapter connector and check the affected cover.
  2. If the cover lights, the source identifies the adapter connector as the fault and directs comparison of the connector pins for abnormalities.
  3. If the cover still does not light, the source identifies the lamp unit as the fault.

These are the source's conditional diagnostic branches. Pin locations, test limits and a complete electrical fault-isolation procedure are not supplied; do not infer them from the blue connector or from another GLE / GLS lighting tutorial.

Details still needed before final installation acceptance

Confirm the year and equipment conflict, each door's cover assignment, the exact No. 6 adapter and pin mapping, the plastic-mount cutting and screw specification, the bus address-learning instructions and the complete refit procedure. Final checks still need evidence of secure mounts and cables, restored factory door functions, functioning factory ambient lighting and the installed covers' actual color synchronization. The source supplies no separate completed-effect recording for this guide.
