Application and functions
This source describes illuminated front air vents for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class W222. It lists synchronization with the factory ambient lighting, adapter harness connections, retention of the original airflow-control knob and a wider airflow-direction adjustment angle.
Confirm the actual vehicle and kit before installation. The written source lists 2014–2020, while both supplied parts illustrations are labeled 2014–2017 W222. The first illustration describes 64-color front vents; the second describes 7-color rear vents. These different descriptions do not establish one color specification or one verified fitment range for every front-and-rear kit.
The source describes a kit that uses adapter connectors without cutting the original wiring. Its video also shows terminal routing through a door connector. That operation requires the correct vehicle/kit wiring information; the general adapter description does not authorize choosing arbitrary connector cavities.
Parts illustrations
Front vent set
The original illustration identifies these parts:
- Front illuminated air vents.
- Vent lighting harness.
- Module power-supply harness.
- Extension harness.
- Ambient-lighting module.
Identify the parts by name and shape. The original photo callouts and its lower legend use different numbers for the extension harness and module: the photo uses 04/05, while the legend uses 05/06. Those inconsistent callouts cannot serve as connector or terminal numbers.
The photographed module label reads “LIN lighting control module,” lists W213/W222/W464 and 64 colors, and shows V4.2 / PG:7.0. This is the label on the photographed unit. It does not verify that every listed chassis, software version or kit combination is supported by this tutorial. The current illustration's phrase “5 door panels” is not a verified panel count.
Rear vent reference supplied with this source
Although this record is titled for front vents, its original source also supplies a rear-vent illustration and a front-and-rear installation video. The original rear illustration identifies:
- Rear illuminated air vents.
- Power adapter harness for the footwell-light connector.
- Extension harness connecting the rear vent light connectors.
“Footwell light” is the intended term for the source's 脚窝灯; the current illustration's “Adapter pin socket lamp” is an incorrect translation. A photographed extension-harness tag reads “177/205 rear lighting extension harness.” That is a tag on the shown component, not confirmation that this W222 procedure applies to chassis 177 or 205. The English image note “17/205” omits a digit and should not be used to select a harness.
Installation sequence shown in the source
Use the linked video together with the correct vehicle service instructions and the instructions for the actual supplied kit. The following guide restores the source's sequence; it does not supply an approved pinout, electrical isolation procedure or tightening specifications.
- Front vent access, approximately 0:14–1:19. The recording shows removal of side trim and the outer vent assemblies, then access to the center trim assembly. Its captions identify two T20 screws and a retaining clip during this section. Preserve the connectors and original control components when separating the trim; verify the correct release locations on the actual vehicle.
- Front vent replacement, approximately 1:19–2:21. The source releases the center assembly's clips and screws, transfers the original bright trim, aligns the replacement vent retaining positions and refits the assembly and air guide. It specifically says not to trap the vent lighting wire when refitting the air guide.
- Door-side harness and module connection, approximately 2:26–3:38. The recording shows door-trim access, its connectors and handle connection, the kit adapter harness and the module. The reference to “No. 3 connector” in the English video is a connector reference in that demonstration; it is not an instruction to use vehicle terminal 3. Match the actual kit connectors and confirm the approved circuit before connection.
- Door-to-cabin terminal routing, approximately 3:39–5:09. The source shows the door connector's retaining lock, routing through the door passage and reassembly. It later requires corresponding positions and matching wire colors on the mating sides. The earlier English phrase “you can put the pin anywhere” must not be treated as a vehicle pinout. Obtain the correct connector housing identification and matched cavity map before carrying out this part.
- Front lighting harness and reassembly, approximately 5:10–5:50. The source distinguishes two longer branches for the outer vents from four connections for the center vents. It then connects the vent lights, arranges the wiring and restores the connectors, fasteners and trim. Keep the harness clear of the retaining clips and air-guide seating areas.
- Rear vent reference, approximately 5:51–6:29. The recording removes the rear vent assembly, disconnects its lower connection, replaces the vent units and restores the connectors and fasteners. The original caption refers to two retaining clips in this section. It then routes the rear lighting harness toward the front footwell/module area. Confirm that this rear section belongs to the supplied kit before using it.
- Footwell-light adapter connection, approximately 6:29–7:15. The source shows the module and an adapter harness with two black connectors, connects it at the factory footwell-light connection and explicitly reconnects the original footwell light. Its caption labels a module connector “5p”; that description does not provide terminal functions or polarity. Check the exact matching connector and kit instructions rather than using the current draft's unclear connector wording.
Function checks and demonstration
The source's separate demonstration heading contains no dedicated effect media. The installation video is not a recorded functional acceptance result for the reader's vehicle.
After installation under the applicable service instructions, check the functions described by the source: normal knob and air-flap operation, airflow adjustment on both sides, vent illumination, synchronization with the vehicle ambient-lighting controls and the original footwell light. Confirm the supplied front and rear kit's actual color functions separately.
Troubleshooting from the original source
- Abnormal vent switch or airflow operation. Inspect the vent, knob-operated air-flap switch and associated wiring. Look for damaged insulation touching ground and plugs that are disconnected or not fully seated. The source calls for reconnecting the knob connector, observing the electronic air flap opening and closing, and comparing airflow adjustment on both sides at the climate-control panel. Use the vehicle-specific diagnostic procedure if the fault remains; this source gives no circuit measurements or fault-code criteria.
- Abnormal vent illumination. Check that the light source and light guide are seated correctly. Inspect the vent lighting wire for pinching or damaged insulation contacting ground. Confirm the matching harness/module and lighting configuration before replacing parts; this source gives no voltage limits, fuse specification or terminal test values.
The existing local English video for this source is available below. Its subtitles and voice track remain an internal draft requiring complete audiovisual and technical review, including the door-terminal wording and the end-of-video timing.
