Vehicle scope and activation
The source text identifies the Mercedes-Benz S-Class 223, model years 2021–2024. The parts photograph is headed 2021–2025 W223, so the year range needs confirmation for the actual vehicle and kit; this guide does not establish 2025 compatibility. Installation requires programming/flashing to activate the lighting functions. The source does not supply the programming procedure or software requirements.
The active lighting provides color effects and visual feedback associated with supported vehicle functions. Warning effects depend on the vehicle's corresponding assistance equipment and configuration. Installing the lighting does not establish that additional detection hardware or assistance functions have been fitted.
Kit contents
The source lists six active light strips, one active lighting module, one set of four-door light-strip wiring, one set of interior wiring and one Ethernet cable. The six strips comprise two dashboard strips, two front-door strips and two rear-door strips. The source lists one active lighting module; the door controllers mentioned later are vehicle components, not additional lighting modules in this parts list.
Figure 1 uses component references: 01 is the right dashboard strip; 02 the front-door strips; 03 the rear-door strips; 04 the left dashboard strip; 05 the dashboard power leads; 06 the rear-door power leads; 07 the front-door power leads; and 08 the blind-spot extension cable. These references are not connector pin numbers. Reference 08 is not identified as the Ethernet cable. Confirm the module, Ethernet cable and exact wiring set against the supplied kit, because the photograph and written packing list do not establish every item's identity together.
Wiring connections from the source
Figure 2 shows the rear fuse-box supply route, and Figure 3 shows the front passenger-side supply route. They are alternatives for the module supply, not an instruction to connect both supplies. The currently localized diagrams contain incorrect and obscured labels; use the written source-derived connection list below for review, and obtain the vehicle-specific connector identification before making electrical connections.
| Lead or component | Connection stated in the source |
|---|---|
| Active module Ethernet cable | Ignition-switch connector 4 |
| Active module pin 12 lead | Pin 1 of ignition-switch connector 5 |
| Active module pin 1 lead | Ground |
| Active module wire 14 | Rear trunk fuse-box F437 or front passenger-side fuse-box terminal 30t |
| Active module pin 2 lead | Pin 3 leads of both dashboard light strips |
| Active module pin 3 lead | Pin 4 leads of both dashboard light strips |
| Active module pin 4 lead | Pin 3 leads of the front and rear right-door light strips |
| Active module pin 5 lead | Pin 4 leads of the front and rear right-door light strips |
| Active module pin 6 lead | Pin 3 leads of the front and rear left-door light strips |
| Active module pin 7 lead | Pin 4 leads of the front and rear left-door light strips |
| Left, short dashboard strip pin 2 lead | Pin 52 of the front SAM COC connector |
| Right, long dashboard strip pin 2 lead | Pin 51 of the front SAM COC connector |
| Both dashboard strips' pin 1 leads | Ground |
| Each door strip pin 2 lead | Empty cavity 9 of that door controller's connector 12 |
| Each door strip pin 1 lead | Existing pin 8 wire of that door controller's connector 12 |
The strip connector has four pins: 1 is ground, 2 is power, and 3/4 form the CAN pair identified in the source. The source does not assign CAN-H or CAN-L polarity. Keep the active module's pin numbers, the light strip's pin numbers, the door controller's numbered connector, and the door pass-through cavities distinct. “Connector 12” is the door controller's connector reference; it does not mean pin 12 of the strip.
F437 is a fuse-position reference, and 30t is a terminal designation. Neither is a stated fuse rating. The source calls the module supply “wire 14”; it does not provide enough connector detail to turn that into a verified cavity instruction. Supply voltage, fuse rating, approved ground point, wire specification, connector viewing direction and vehicle isolation procedure remain unprovided.
Installation photo sequence
The following steps translate the source photograph captions. They describe the photographed vehicle and connector arrangement. A complete vehicle-specific procedure, fastener torques, terminal specification and refitting checks still need confirmation.
1. Front door panels
Use a plastic trim tool to release the armrest cover. The sequence identifies three retaining screws: the first uses T20 and the other two use T30. Move the armrest outward horizontally as shown. Release the lower and upper door-panel clips, then draw the panel away horizontally. Release the door-handle cable and the door controller's connectors 12 and 13. These are door-panel operations; the source does not instruct removal of the door itself. The connector numbers identify plugs, not individual pins.
2. Rear door panels
Remove the cover and the three retaining screws shown; the covered screw uses T20 and the other two use T30. Move the armrest outward, release the panel clips, and release the door-handle cable. Disconnect the indicated door-controller connectors 12 and 13 and the tweeter connector. The current image's “D13” label should be read as the source connector reference 13. Screw positions and release directions follow the photographs, not an assumed identical arrangement on every variant.
3. Center display and surrounding trim
Remove both sill trims and both triangular dashboard side covers. Release the center armrest switch trim, then remove the indicated T20 fixing for the trim above the cup holder. Lift and move the climate-control panel rearward as shown, and unplug it. Remove the six T20 screws identified in the sequence. Lift the display trim assembly upward, then disconnect the center-console side-lighting connector and the center-display connector. The climate-control panel is not an air vent, and the upward display-trim step is separate from the earlier panel release.
4. Instrument display and adjacent trim
Release the trim behind the instrument display and use a plastic trim tool to release the indicated cover clips. Remove the two T20 screws, remove the instrument display itself, and unplug its two connectors. Release the trim behind and above its frame and the side trim pieces shown. The final illustrated piece is the steering-column dust-cover trim with its fabric boot; it is not the steering wheel. Retain the distinctions between a plastic trim tool, the cover and the display.
5. Left dashboard strip
Use a plastic trim tool to release the end cover. Remove the end T20 screw and the two lower T20 screws. Release the locating pins shown, remove the vent assembly, and disconnect the blue and white plugs. Release the original decorative piece, replace the left light strip and reconnect the illustrated connection. The blue and white plugs are identified by the photo; their color alone does not establish their electrical function.
6. Right dashboard strip
Release the end cover with a plastic trim tool, remove the end T20 screw and the two lower T20 screws, and release the locating pins. Remove the long dashboard trim and vent panel. Disconnect the five circled connectors shown; the source does not name each connector's function. Release the metal retaining clips and slide the decorative piece horizontally to the left as illustrated, then replace the right light strip. The metal clips are retaining parts, not a tool, and the long dashboard panel is not the center console.
7. Access at the lower A-pillar areas
Remove the T20 fixings shown at the driver and passenger lower footwell areas. Release the lower trims and unplug their connectors. Fold back the carpet below the glovebox to access the passenger-side A-pillar base. The ignition switch is shown above the fuse box. Press the circled latch and slide the indicated piece downward in the illustrated direction. This sequence concerns the lower areas; it does not supply an upper A-pillar or airbag-removal procedure.
8. Ignition-switch connections
Unplug the identified connector. Release the latch of the light-green connector marked No. 5 / CON5 and connect the active module's pin 12 lead to its pin 1 wire, as stated in the wiring list. The separate blue connector is No. 4: release its two housing locks and lift the inner lock for the Ethernet connection shown.
The final photograph labels an insertion position “1” but does not unambiguously establish whether this refers to a socket position, cavity or terminal. It therefore cannot be used to assign all Ethernet conductors to electrical pin 1. Obtain the exact Ethernet connector arrangement before insertion. The light-green and blue colors refer to the photographed connector housings, not universal signal-wire colors.
9. Front SAM connections
Access the front SAM at the driver-side A-pillar area. Unplug the yellow COC connector, release its housing and access the connector insert as shown. Connect the left, short dashboard strip's pin 2 lead to COC pin 52, and the right, long dashboard strip's pin 2 lead to COC pin 51. The source states this assignment in the caption; the photograph does not provide a complete numbered connector-face diagram for independently locating every cavity.
10. Front and rear door strips
For the front panel, release the triangular trim shown, remove the row of T20 fasteners behind the panel and remove the foam pad. Disconnect the driver's switch connector and remove the T20 decorative-trim fasteners illustrated. Move the front triangular trim upward, release the locating tabs and remove the decorative face. Replace the light strip and engage the first clip indicated by the arrow before seating the remaining trim.
For the rear panel, remove the illustrated row of T20 decorative-trim fixings, release its tabs and remove the decorative face. Replace the rear strip and engage the arrowed first clip before seating the rest. The source does not specify the number of screws in either row. The current rear-panel caption contains corrupted text; it is not an additional instruction or part name.
11. Light-strip and door-controller connectors
The white strip connector has four pins: pin 1 ground, pin 2 power, and pins 3/4 the CAN pair. The photographed strip harness shows yellow at 1, green at 2, blue/white at 3 and blue at 4. These colors describe that harness only; they do not establish all vehicle or replacement-harness wire colors. The source also distinguishes shorter front-door and longer rear-door harness sections.
Release the blue factory door-controller connector 12 and slide its insert from the shell as shown. Place the strip's pin 2 lead in the empty cavity 9, and splice the strip's pin 1 lead to the existing pin 8 wire. The existing brown wire is the ground example shown. The strip's pins 1/2 and the factory connector's cavities 8/9 are different references; do not insert both leads into factory cavities 1/2. The source does not give an approved splice method or terminal part number.
12. Front-door pass-through: female terminals
The overview indicates the active module, front-door pass-through connector and strip pins 3/4; its dotted line illustrates the connection path, not a verified module mounting location. Release the door-junction latch and remove the body-side interior harness plug. Push the insert out of its shell, remove the rubber boot and route the added wiring through the existing opening and along the factory harness.
Release the side secondary lock and slide the insert out. Seat the female terminals in the circled insert's empty cavities, matching the corresponding male terminals on the mating half. Restore the insert, shell, locks and boot according to the connector arrangement. The photographs do not supply a complete per-wire numbered cavity map or terminal specification; an empty cavity must not be selected from its appearance alone.
13. Front-door pass-through: male terminals
Press the indicated latch inward and push the connector out. Pull back the rubber boot, release the circled housing latches and remove the connector insert. Release the purple secondary lock at the side. Route the leads along the existing door harness and through the boot between the strip connection and the male terminal insert. Seat the male terminals in the corresponding empty cavities so that they align with the female terminals on the other half. The counterpart for a male terminal is female; the current image repeats “male” incorrectly. Complete cavity assignments and viewing orientation remain to be confirmed.
14. Rear-door pass-through: female terminals
Locate the rear-door body-to-door connector at the B-pillar. Release the connector latch upward and remove the B-pillar interior/body-side harness plug. Pull the upper B-pillar trim horizontally to release its clips as illustrated. Push the connector insert out of its shell, remove the boot and route the leads through the existing opening and along the factory harness.
Release the side clip and remove the inner insert. Place the female terminals in the circled insert's empty cavities, matching the male terminals on the mating half, then restore the connector parts and boot. Several current English captions omit these steps or incorrectly call this a male terminal socket. The overview refers to the active lighting module and rear door. A partly visible housing number is not a complete map assigning strip pins 3 and 4 to particular cavities.
15. Rear-door pass-through: male terminals
Press the indicated latch and push the connector out, pull back the rubber boot and access the door-side harness plug. Release the circled housing latches, remove the insert and release its side secondary lock. Route the leads along the existing harness between the strip connector and the male insert. Seat the male terminals in the corresponding empty cavities, aligned with the female terminals on the mating half. The current image's counterpart label is incorrect. Both sides must have a confirmed matching cavity assignment; the source does not provide the full map or CAN polarity.
Controls and supported effects
The original vehicle photographs show color, brightness and effect menus, including operation feedback, warning assistance and dynamic multicolor settings. The Chinese interface is retained, with English reading notes outside the photographs. These notes translate the visible controls; they do not reproduce the vehicle's actual English interface or establish menu labels and positions for another software version.
| Effect | Behavior described in the source |
|---|---|
| Climate temperature feedback | With the climate function enabled, increasing the set temperature produces red light; decreasing it produces blue light. |
| Synchronized temperature feedback | With SYNC enabled in the climate menu, the driver's temperature control operates the synchronized effect. |
| Zoned temperature feedback | With SYNC disabled, or when another seat's temperature control is operated, the corresponding regional effect is used. |
| Single color | A uniform color throughout the vehicle, without changing colors. |
| Multicolor theme | The selected theme produces its corresponding zoned colors. |
| Dynamic mode | The strip colors flow according to the selected theme. |
| Door-opening warning | The source describes a visual prompt when exiting with corresponding people or vehicles moving behind the vehicle. Availability depends on the associated vehicle assistance function. |
| Lane-change prompt | The source describes a prompt with the turn signal active and a corresponding moving vehicle behind. Availability depends on the associated vehicle assistance function. |
| Welcome effect | After the vehicle has fully entered sleep mode, unlocking produces flowing white light around the strips. |
The source warning-assistance screen also indicates that the corresponding assistance functions must be enabled in the assistance menu. It does not establish that every S223 configuration supports every effect, or that the lighting installation alone enables an unavailable assistance system. The photographed operation-feedback submenu contains three entries: welcome, climate-control and voice-assistant feedback. Exact English menu names and positions require confirmation for the vehicle's software version.
Reading the eight photographs
The photographs remain in their original order. The following captions are also provided as text for reading on a small screen.
01 | Color: single color — The photographed single-color option is selected. A continuous color spectrum and the displayed value 4 are visible. These are the original Chinese vehicle controls; the photograph does not show a set of six separate color buttons.
02 | Color: multicolor — The multicolor option is selected. Twelve theme preview tiles are visible in four rows of three, with a blue outline around the third tile in the first row. This is the photographed view, not a claim about every software version or the total available themes.
03 | Brightness — Multi-zone synchronization is shown enabled. Four brightness sliders with 0 and 20 markings are visible. The photograph does not name each slider Front, Rear, Doors or Footwells; those zone assignments cannot be established from this screen.
04 | Effects overview — Three entries are visible: Operation feedback, Warning assistance and Dynamic multicolor. All three photographed switches are shown on. The first two entries have settings icons, and the third has an information icon.
05 | Operation feedback — The popup shows three entries: Welcome, Climate and Voice assistant. All three photographed switches are shown on. The explanatory text says ambient lighting visualizes interactions with the vehicle. A separate brightness-response entry is not shown.
06 | Warning assistance — Four entries are visible: Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Brake Assist and Door-exit warning. All four switches are shown on. The visible note says the corresponding systems must be enabled in the assistance menu; this photo alone does not verify those systems on another vehicle.
07 | Effects overview, second photograph — This second photographed overview repeats Operation feedback, Warning assistance and Dynamic multicolor, with all three switches shown on. It is retained in its original position. A still photograph cannot verify animation or actual warning operation.
08 | Installed interior view — The wider interior photograph shows the installed lighting and the original Chinese multicolor screen, including the visible theme preview grid. It documents the photographed appearance only; it does not establish fitment for other vehicles or prove that every effect has passed a functional test.
Troubleshooting from the source
- Active lighting does not illuminate: check whether programming has been completed and the ambient-lighting functions are enabled. Inspect the wiring connectors and door pass-through terminals for misalignment, bending or deformation.
- An existing vehicle function no longer works: inspect the installation for incorrectly restored connectors or misplaced adapter connections.
- The lighting interface is missing: check whether programming succeeded and whether a vehicle software update has occurred. The source says reprogramming may be needed after an update; it supplies no coding procedure or diagnostic acceptance criteria.
This source describes installation and effects but provides no completed vehicle-specific diagnostic record or functional acceptance results. Supply protection, connector orientation and pass-through cavity maps, activation settings, torque values and final vehicle-function checks remain to be confirmed before treating the guide as technically complete.
