Original English guide from the CKCP tutorial centre. Check your vehicle, equipment and connector version before installation.

This guide describes a replacement-style upgrade to front and rear air vents with 64-color ambient lighting controlled through the vehicle's lighting system. The written source lists 2019–2024 G-Class 464 vehicles, while the product pictures below are labeled 2019–2022. Confirm the exact vehicle year, existing ambient-lighting equipment and supplied kit before using the procedure, particularly for a 2023–2024 vehicle.

1. Identify the parts and lighting version

Image 001 · Front vent kit reference

Image 001 identifies: 01 illuminated front vents; 02 vent-light harness; 03 ambient-light module; 04 extension cable. The source module label describes compatibility with existing factory ambient lighting and an ambient-light LIN control module (YC). The numbers printed on that label—167, 177, 205, 213, 247 and 253—do not establish compatibility with the G-Class 464. Confirm the module supplied for this vehicle rather than selecting a module by this reference picture alone.

Image 002 · Vent parts and harness reference

Image 002 identifies: 01 illuminated front vents; 02 chrome vent trim rings; 03 footwell-light adapter/module power harness; 04 ambient-light module; 05 rear vent-light harness. These are source reference assemblies; confirm which parts belong to the lighting version supplied with your kit.

The source distinguishes two wiring arrangements:

  • Factory-type lamp-head version: use its supplied adapter at the right front footwell light. After installation, the source requires a Mercedes-Benz diagnostic computer running XENTRY to perform address learning and matching for the factory ambient-lighting controller. It then calls for locking the vehicle and allowing it to sleep for 10 minutes. The source does not provide the diagnostic menu, controller identifier, coding values or a successful learning receipt; obtain the procedure for the actual vehicle and lamp-head version.
  • Aftermarket lamp-head version with decoder: use its adapter at the right front door-control module. The source states that this version learns after the vehicle is locked for 10 minutes, without a separate programming or matching step. This instruction applies to that decoder version; it does not replace the XENTRY requirement for the factory-type version.

Do not unplug or reconnect a module while it is powered. This restriction is stated in the source troubleshooting instructions and also applies when checking its connections.

2. Remove and replace the vents: factory-type lamp-head example

Image 003 · Dashboard and rear console installation sequence

Read Image 003 from top to bottom. The original is a narrow, low-resolution strip; use the following companion steps to identify the sequence rather than estimating a fastener size from the photograph.

Dashboard and screen

  1. Remove the upper instrument-panel trim. The first two removal photographs show this same trim being released and lifted away.
  2. Remove the lower trim panel shown beneath it.
  3. Remove the three screws indicated below the upper assembly.
  4. Disconnect the screen connectors and remove the screen, as shown in the following views.
  5. Remove the six screws indicated in the next stage. With the panel removed, remove the two screws above the vents shown by the source.

Footwell side covers and rear console

  1. Remove the side cover in the driver's footwell shown in the strip. Remove the screw indicated by the red arrow, then take off the cover panel.
  2. The source calls for the corresponding cover screws to be removed on both sides. It does not give a connector disconnect or fastener specification for those side-cover assemblies.
  3. Remove the rear air-vent panel and lift it away. Remove the two circled screws exposed behind it.
  4. After removing those screws, lift out the center-console assembly shown. Remove the screws below the center control panel; the next view indicates their positions.
  5. Remove the center control panel.

Vent trim, retaining clips and installation

  1. Use a trim tool to release the left silver trim panel, then remove it.
  2. Release the right silver trim panel. Disconnect the connectors shown and remove that panel.
  3. With the panels removed, undo the vent-retaining screws and separate the existing turbine-style vents from their panels. The source shows both a side-panel assembly and the center-panel assembly at this stage.
  4. Use a screwdriver to release the existing retaining clips and fit those clips to the new vents. The source specifically shows transferring these clips; it does not call for discarding them or bonding the replacement vents in place.
  5. Fit the replacement vents back into their panels.
  6. For the factory-type lamp-head example, connect the supplied adapter at the right front footwell light, as specified in the written source. The circled picture shows the general connection area; it is not a terminal or cavity diagram.
  7. Refit the removed assemblies. Complete the version-specific XENTRY learning and vehicle sleep sequence described in Section 1, then check the front and rear lighting. The final photographs show the restored rear vent panel and the installed front/rear lighting.

The strip does not specify screw-head sizes, tightening torques, connector release details, a complete front-to-rear harness route or all reassembly checks. Confirm those details for the actual vehicle before removing fasteners or securing the harness. Preserve the vehicle's original connections and check that the added wiring does not obstruct vent movement, ducts or panel refitting.

3. Aftermarket lamp heads with decoder: door harness route

Use the mechanical vent-removal sequence above. The electrical connection is different from the factory-type lamp-head example.

Image 004 · Decoder harness through the door wiring boot

Image 004 shows the following source sequence for the right front door:

  1. Press down on the shown retaining clip with a screwdriver to release it.
  2. Join the door-side and vehicle-side harness branches using the mating adapter connections shown. The source calls for matching the illustrated colors; it does not define electrical pins or authorize connecting unrelated wires by color.
  3. Route the vehicle-side harness through the protective door wiring boot and connect it to the door-side harness, as shown.
  4. Use the module adapter at the existing door-control connector No. 6, indicated by the red circle. No. 6 identifies a connector, not terminal/pin 6.

The example module photograph carries an A213-series part label. Neither that label nor its pictured blue connector proves which module or connector arrangement is fitted to every G-Class 464. Confirm the actual door-control module and kit adapter with the supplier before connecting. The source does not show the full door-panel removal procedure, terminal assignments, a boot resealing method or the complete wire-fixing route.

For the decoder version described by the source, lock the vehicle and allow the stated 10-minute learning period after installation. Confirm that the supplied decoder is the correct version and that the installed lamps respond to the vehicle's ambient-light controls.

4. Troubleshooting and final checks

  • No vent lighting: with power off, check that the module and power connectors are fully seated. Disconnect/reconnect only with the module unpowered, then lock the vehicle and allow it to sleep. The source suggests checking with a replacement power harness or module if needed; confirm the correct part before substitution.
  • Lighting works but colors do not change: for a module with DIP switches, confirm its settings against the instructions for that exact module. This source does not provide a switch table. The source also suggests checking with the correct replacement module and replacing a confirmed faulty component.
  • Lighting works but a vent supplies no air: check that the vent's airflow control is open and that the vehicle's HVAC distribution setting supplies that outlet. Correct the setting or replace a confirmed faulty vent component as appropriate.
  • The fault remains: contact the CKCP representative who supplied the kit and request technical support. Include the vehicle year, lighting version, module/adapter identification and the relevant step or image.

Before completing the installation, check front and rear lighting, color response, vent airflow and the fit of the replaced panels. The illuminated example photographs demonstrate an installed result; they do not provide the missing diagnostic, connector or vehicle-version specifications.
