Vehicle and kit requirements
The original guide identifies 2022–2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class 206 and GLC 254 vehicles that already have factory ambient lighting but lack the dashboard and center-console ambient-light strips. In this guide, the “saddle area” means the trim around the center console. The illustrated installation is on a W206 interior; the photographs do not establish the removal procedure for every GLC 254 configuration.
The source describes a replacement-style kit modeled on the higher-trim factory design, with no programming required for its intended application. Confirm the exact vehicle, factory lighting equipment, and supplied kit version before installation. This statement does not establish compatibility with vehicles that have no factory ambient-lighting system.
For the C200L and GLC260L applications described in the source, the added center-console lighting is driven by a supplied module connected at the right-front footwell light. The source also specifies factory-protocol LIN light heads for the door lighting, connected through plug-in adapters to follow the factory system. This article illustrates the dashboard and center-console work; it does not show a complete door-light installation or identify individual electrical terminals.
Choose the correct product version
Version A — minimalist light-strip version
Figure 1. Version A uses replacement light strips. The original trim must be disassembled to replace its illuminated sections. The image calls this the “Basic version.”
Version B — trim-panel version
Figure 2. Version B supplies replacement trim assemblies. The assembly-replacement method differs from Version A’s light-strip conversion; panel cutting is not a general instruction for both versions.
Wiring layout and initial trim removal
The diagram identifies the left dashboard, center dashboard, right dashboard, and center-console light-head connections, together with the footwell module. “FW” in Figure 3 means footwell. Match these locations to the supplied harness; the diagram does not provide a pinout, voltage specification, or permission to connect by wire color.
Figure 3. Harness layout, right-front footwell connection, five front air vents, and the initial console-trim removal sequence.
- Locate the factory right-front footwell-light connection. The photograph shows the supplied module/adapter inserted at this connection. Confirm the matching kit connectors and the vehicle’s electrical preparation procedure before disconnecting or connecting them; the source does not specify that procedure.
- Remove the front air vents shown in the photographs: the two outer vents and three center vents. For the illustrated vent, the source shows a straight horizontal pull and states that there are no screws. Do not apply this statement to an unverified vent or vehicle configuration.
- Release the center-console side trim horizontally outward, following the arrows in the photograph.
- Release the console’s chrome surround at the two marked lower/front points, then at the next pair of marked points. The following photograph shows the surround lifted free and identifies four retaining clips.
- For the next console panel, release the areas marked 1 upward first, then release the areas marked 2 in the indicated direction. Support the panel as its clips release and keep its wiring clear.
Display, instrument trim, and dashboard panel
Figure 4. Center display, console bracket, instrument trim, instrument cluster, and main dashboard trim in the illustrated W206 sequence.
- Locate and remove the center-display fasteners circled in the first photograph. The red arrows point downward. The original wording combines “downward” movement with “lift,” and the English image repeats this ambiguity; confirm the actual release motion for the vehicle before moving the display. Do not interpret “lift it free” as an instruction to pull upward against the mounts.
- Support the display and disconnect its cables as shown in the next photograph. Release the connector locks rather than pulling on the wires. The guide does not specify every connector’s release mechanism.
- Remove the circled console-bracket fasteners. The next photograph shows lifting the upper portion and turning the bracket back to remove it.
- Release the right-side instrument trim at the marked clip locations, followed by the left-side instrument trim shown next. Keep the separate pieces and their clips identifiable for refitting.
- Remove the two circled instrument-cluster fasteners. This sequence has the same “downward/lift” wording ambiguity as the center display, with downward arrows in the source. Obtain the confirmed cluster-release procedure before moving it, then support it while disconnecting the circled plug.
- Release the main dashboard trim from the outer passenger-side edge progressively inward, following the long arrow across the panel. Support the trim and attached wiring as it comes free.
- Remove the remaining left-side dashboard/instrument trim upward, as the arrows in the final photograph show. This upward instruction belongs to the trim panel, not to the earlier display or cluster steps.
The photographs mark fastener and clip locations but do not specify tool sizes, tightening torques, the complete power-isolation procedure, or model-specific GLC differences. Obtain these details for the exact vehicle before carrying out the corresponding work.
Light-head locations, harness routing, and version-specific replacement
Figure 5. Dashboard light-head locations, the center-console harness route, and the distinct replacement methods for Versions A and B.
- Identify the three dashboard light-head locations circled in the first photograph. The next close-up identifies the left-side location separately.
- Route the center-console light-head lead along the dashed path shown, from the right dashboard area toward the center console. This is a routing reference, not an electrical-terminal diagram. Keep the harness clear of fasteners, clip seats, sharp edges, vents, and moving trim.
- Version A: The source shows the original trim separated at its welded mounting points so that the light strips/light guides can be replaced. These are trim attachment points, not electrical wire joints. The guide does not specify the removal tool, depth, or approved method for securing the converted trim again. Confirm the kit-specific conversion and refastening procedure before removing these points.
- Version B: Replace the corresponding trim as a complete assembly, as shown in the final two photographs. Do not apply the Version A welded-point removal instruction to this assembly merely because both versions appear in the same figure.
Panel-modification reference for the illustrated conversion
Figure 6. Disassembled original trim, the source’s red-marked cutting areas, and the pictured result of panel modification.
The red markings identify material to remove in the illustrated panel-conversion example. The following photographs show the cut panel and light-guide arrangement. They do not specify dimensions, cutting depth, tool settings, finish requirements, or the complete attachment method after modification. Obtain an approved instruction for the exact Version A kit and original panel before cutting. The reference is not authorization to cut a different panel, a Version B replacement assembly, or every GLC 254 trim variant.
Testing and refitting
After the confirmed installation and electrical reconnection procedure, reconnect all required factory plugs and use the vehicle’s appropriate ON state for testing. Check the factory lighting together with the added dashboard and center-console lighting. If door lighting is part of the supplied kit, its separately confirmed installation must also be checked.
- Check the added light locations for illumination and consistent color using the factory controls.
- Check adjustment of both factory and added lighting. The source describes compatibility with the factory functions; actual function checks must be completed on the vehicle.
- Check the display, instrument cluster, and any controls or connectors disturbed during removal.
- Confirm that the harness does not obstruct vents, clips, fasteners, or trim movement, and that converted or replacement panels are secured by the approved method.
- Refit the trim using the vehicle-specific procedure and specified fasteners, then repeat the checks after refitting. The illustrated source does not provide a complete refitting or diagnostic acceptance procedure.
Troubleshooting
- One light head shows a different color: Check for a loose light-head connection and reseat the plug. If the components and connectors are confirmed interchangeable, compare the light head and connection at another matching position to isolate the fault. Replace a confirmed defective light head if necessary.
- An entire area differs from the factory single-color menu: Check the main-harness connector for a loose or displaced terminal and reseat the connection. Replace a defective connecting lead if necessary. Do not guess the terminal position from the photograph.
- The center-console or door lighting does not illuminate: Check for pinched or damaged harness sections that may have caused a short circuit. Confirm that the module and matching factory connectors are fully seated. Replace a confirmed defective harness or module if necessary.
- Factory ambient-light functions cannot be adjusted: Confirm that the key/ignition is in the required ON state and that all factory connectors removed during installation have been reconnected correctly.
- Factory lighting works, but the added lighting cannot be adjusted: Check the footwell module and its connecting lead to the factory footwell light. Replace a confirmed defective lead or module if necessary.
- The issue remains: Contact your CKCP sales representative for technical support. Include the vehicle model, year, factory lighting configuration, kit version, and the relevant step or image number.
Follow the confirmed electrical preparation procedure before reseating or exchanging components. The source does not supply a live-circuit troubleshooting procedure.
