This guide describes installing an AMG protocol module where required and using remote programming to enable the source's Super Sport instrument-cluster layout and AMG menu. It concerns the displayed instrument layout; the source does not provide a vehicle software compatibility matrix or specific coding values.

1. Source-listed vehicles and module requirements

Vehicle series Model years listed in the written source
A-Class 177, CLA 118, B-Class 247, GLA 247, GLB 247, CLS 257 2019–2023
GLE 167, GLS 167 2020–2023
E-Class 213 2021–2023

The written source identifies the following as requiring an AMG instrument-cluster module: 1.3T A/B/CLA/GLA/GLB vehicles, 2021 E-Class, 2021 CLS and 2020–2021 GLE350. It says other applicable vehicles can be activated remotely without this additional module. Confirm that distinction for the actual engine, instrument-cluster software, head unit and kit version; a vehicle being in the general list does not establish which connection arrangement it uses.

Image 001 · Protocol module and adapter harness

Image 001 shows the protocol module, adapter harness and an adhesive pad. The photograph does not specify a module part number, mounting position or connector pinout.

2. Activation sequence and harness selection

  1. Confirm whether the source-listed vehicle requires the module and select the harness branches for its actual connection arrangement.
  2. Install the module and adapter as shown in the applicable reference below. The source says an instrument-program upgrade visit is unnecessary for its module version; activation takes place remotely after installation.
  3. Maintain a stable network connection. The source gives approximately 10 minutes for remote activation; this is an estimate, not a completion test.
  4. Connect the Mercedes-Benz diagnostic interface to the programming computer running DTS, as shown in the installation example, and have the remote technician activate the AMG instrument menu. The source example calls for the ignition to be on during this programming stage. It does not supply the DTS project, software version, controller selection, coding data or programming power-support requirements; obtain these for the actual vehicle before activation.
  5. After the technician confirms successful programming, test the cluster functions and restore the removed trim. A sport-layout photograph alone does not establish that programming and fault checks have passed.

The harness photographs identify two separate branch sets:

Harness branch set in the source Source-labeled reference applications
A: CAN connection branches New A/B/CLA/GLA/GLB
B: instrument connection branches 2021 E-Class, 2021 CLS, 2020–2021 GLE/GLS

These are labels for the pictured harness. Set B is not labeled a generic “legacy” connection, and the source does not include GLE in the Set A caption. Confirm the actual connectors and harness revision instead of treating the table as a universal fitment rule.

3. A/B/CLA/GLA/GLB installation example: HU6

Image 002 · Driver-footwell module installation example

Image 002 reading notes: The original photographs and their Chinese annotations are retained. Read the accompanying English descriptions; the source does not provide a complete connector mapping or approved programming procedure.

  • Source instrument display. The appearance alone does not prove successful programming or vehicle operation.
  • Source groups: A = new A/B/CLA/GLA/GLB; B = 2021 E/CLS and 2020–2021 GLE/GLS. These harness labels are not a universal terminal map.
  • Source driver-side floor/sill trim panel. This photograph does not show removal of a seat base.
  • Source driver-side lower cover. Confirm the actual vehicle fasteners, access and refitting procedure.
  • Source CAN HMI: purple/white and purple, fifth from the right; source specifies two-pin connectors. The pictured identification test deliberately creates faults. It is not an approved diagnostic procedure.
  • Source module adapter between the original connectors; module plug returned to the original position. The exact connector and cavity mapping are absent.
  • Source protocol box at vehicle OBD, followed by a diagnostic head/DTS, AMG programming, function check and refitting. The complete programming specification and acceptance record are not provided.
  • Source DIP: 1 up = new A/B/CLA/GLA/GLB and GLE350; 1 down = 2021 E/CLS with HU6; 8 down = locked. Do not change switch 8. Up/down is not a verified ON/OFF assignment.

Read Image 002 from top to bottom:

  1. Remove the driver's floor-edge/side trim shown, then remove the lower cover beneath the driver's dashboard.
  2. Locate the pictured CAN HMI connection above and to the left. The source example labels the wire pair purple/white and purple and points to the fifth connector counted from the right in that view. This is a connector-position reference, not cavity/pin 5 and not a CAN-high/low assignment.
  3. Once the exact connector has been confirmed, the source shows the vehicle's male connector mating with the module harness's female connector. The module harness's male connector returns to the same original socket. Preserve that original socket position.
  4. Connect the module's OBD adapter inline with the vehicle's OBD connector, as shown. Ensure both mating connectors are fully seated.
  5. For remote programming, connect the diagnostic interface to the DTS computer and follow the technician's confirmed procedure. After successful activation, test the functions and restore the removed parts.

Connector-identification detail requiring confirmation: Image 002 describes an ignition-on disconnection check that produces multiple cluster faults and a horn sound. The written troubleshooting section instead describes the cluster not lighting up after its CAN connection is removed. Those are different observations, and the source does not reconcile them. Have the technician identify the exact CAN connector and the applicable test procedure before disconnecting it; do not select a connector by creating faults or by color alone. The image expressly distinguishes its two-pin connectors from three-pin connectors, warning that removing a three-pin connection stops the CAN HMI system.

DIP-switch reference shown in the source

Switch Pictured source setting
1 up New A/B/CLA/GLA/GLB and GLE350
1 down 2021 E-Class and 2021 CLS with HU6
8 down Locked-function setting; the source says not to change it

“Up” and “down” describe the directions written on this pictured module. The source does not equate them with ON/OFF, define switches 2–7 or give a GLS setting. Confirm the exact module revision and its orientation before applying this reference.

4. CLA connector-position reference: HU6

Image 003 · CLA CAN connector reference

The source caption identifies the pictured CLA instrument connection as second counted from the front, in the photographed orientation. This differs from the fifth-from-the-right reference in Image 002. The photograph is not a numbered cavity diagram; confirm the vehicle's connector arrangement rather than substituting one counting direction for another.

5. GLA connector-position reference: HU6

Image 004 · GLA CAN connector reference

The GLA source caption identifies the connection as third counted from the right in that view. This is a position within the pictured connector assembly, not terminal/pin 3. The source does not provide the connector part number or terminal view for this vehicle.

6. 2021 E-Class/CLS connection example: HU6

Image 005 · E-Class and CLS instrument connection example

Image 005 reading notes: The original photographs and their Chinese annotations are retained. Read the accompanying English descriptions; the source does not provide a complete terminal-transfer map.

  • Source instrument display. Appearance alone does not prove programming or successful vehicle operation.
  • Source groups: A = new A/B/CLA/GLA/GLB. B = 2021 E/CLS and 2020–2021 GLE/GLS. These harness labels are not a universal terminal map.
  • The source labels terminals 1 and 2 as CAN. The exact vehicle/connector, viewing direction and polarity are not independently established by this crop.
  • Driver-side lower-cover example. The source shows a connector on the controller beside the steering column. This is not a demonstrated seat-base removal procedure.
  • The source shows the small black inner connector. Confirm the release method, safe electrical state and applicable connector version before intervention.
  • The source shows the original CAN branch and adapter with terminal transfer required. Obtain the exact cavity map and locking procedure before transferring terminals.
  • Source DIP reference: 1 up = new A/B/CLA/GLA/GLB and GLE350; 1 down = 2021 E/CLS with HU6. 8 down = locked function; do not change it. Up/down are not a verified ON/OFF assignment.

The source shows the connection after removing the lower cover on the driver's side, near the computer/module beside the steering column. It does not instruct removal of the driver's seat base.

The sequence shows:

  1. Identify the circled connector next to that module.
  2. Release the small black connector insert shown inside the assembly.
  3. Connect the vehicle's CAN connection to the supplied adapter branch. The source specifically says terminal/wire rearrangement is required; a mating connector alone does not establish the terminal order.
  4. Use the switch reference above for the pictured 2021 E-Class/CLS HU6 module version.

A diagram in this source strip labels 1 and 2 as CAN terminals, but its exact vehicle/connector identification, terminal-view direction and CAN-high/low assignment are not supplied. Obtain the actual terminal-transfer map and locking procedure before releasing or relocating terminals. Do not use those two numbers as a pinout for Images 002–004 or another vehicle.

7. 2020–2021 GLE/GLS connection reference: HU6

Image 006 · GLE350 instrument connection and terminal-transfer reference

Image 006 reading notes: The original photographs and their Chinese annotations are retained. Read the accompanying English descriptions; the source does not provide a complete terminal-transfer map.

  • Instrument display example. Appearance alone is not a programming or diagnostic success receipt.
  • Source harness groups: A = new A/B/CLA/GLA/GLB. B = 2021 E/CLS and 2020–2021 GLE/GLS. The source does not call B a generic legacy connection.
  • GLE350 source example: instrument CAN connector near the steering-wheel / A-pillar area. No terminal map is supplied.
  • The source describes releasing terminals and exchanging the supplied / original connector positions. Obtain the exact cavity map and locking procedure before doing so.
  • Assembled connection example. The photo does not verify programming, terminal assignment or function.
  • Pictured DIP reference: 1 up = new A/B/CLA/GLA/GLB and GLE350; 1 down = 2021 E/CLS with HU6. 8 down = locked function; do not change it. Up/down are not a verified ON/OFF assignment.

The written section is headed 2020–2021 GLE/GLS, while the connection photograph is specifically captioned GLE350. The source places its instrument CAN connection near the steering-wheel/A-pillar area in the pictured example. It then describes releasing terminals and exchanging the supplied and original connector positions, followed by the installed view.

The source does not supply the exact terminal/cavity map, release tool, locking procedure or a separate GLS connection example. Obtain the map for the actual vehicle and adapter before rearranging any terminals. The switch caption here again gives switch 1 up for GLE350, switch 1 down for 2021 E-Class/CLS HU6 and switch 8 down; it does not establish a setting for every GLE/GLS variant.

8. Troubleshooting and verification

  • AMG menu absent: confirm the exact instrument CAN connection and adapter arrangement against the vehicle-specific map. Resolve the conflicting connector-identification observations described in Section 3 rather than treating a dark cluster or horn sound as proof of a correct connection.
  • OBD connection: check that the adapter's male and female connectors are fully seated without a loose connection.
  • Module setting: confirm that the DIP-switch configuration matches the actual vehicle and module revision. Use only the defined reference settings; the source does not define the remaining switches.
  • Connections and settings confirmed but no menu: the source calls for powering down and allowing the vehicle to sleep for 10 minutes, then checking again. A correct replacement protocol module or adapter harness may be needed after the technician confirms the failed component.
  • The issue remains: contact the supplier for technical phone support. Include the vehicle/model year, head-unit and cluster software identification, module revision, harness branch used and the relevant image or step.

Test the activated menu and instrument functions before restoring the removed parts and handing over the vehicle. Record the technician's programming result and resolve any connection or diagnostic faults; neither the approximate activation time nor the example sport-layout photographs are a success receipt.
