This guide documents the CKCP 4D rotating-tweeter kit identified in the archived E-Class 214 tutorial. The source text names the 2024 model year; the product image names 2024–2025 W214. Exact year, market, steering side, factory audio system and kit compatibility still require confirmation. The source describes replacement installation using adapter wiring and integration with factory ambient lighting.
Internal review status: HOLD. The written sequence below restores source information, but the English video contains unresolved translation and subtitle defects. Vehicle-specific connector assignments, power isolation, fastening requirements and functional acceptance have not been technically approved.
Product identification
The original product photograph identifies three groups:
- 01 — Rotating-tweeter assemblies: a left/right pair.
- 02 — Modules: a left/right pair. The image legend calls these ambient-light modules, while the photographed stickers read “206/214/254/223 (4D) — Rotary Drive Module,” with CKCP V1.0 and the date 2024/10/24. These two descriptions need a kit-specific explanation; the sticker is not proof of compatibility with every listed chassis.
- 03 — Adapter harnesses: a left/right pair.
The current English image removes parts of the photographed module and harness labels. Its appended “Rotary Drive Module” note does not replace a readable, directly associated module label. Confirm the actual supplied parts rather than using the edited label area to identify a connection.
Installation sequence from archived video V1
V1 is the exact locally archived installation video associated with this tutorial. The existing English version is linked at the end of this guide. The time ranges below refer to the approximately 6:59 recording and are a navigation aid, not a complete electrical installation specification.
- 00:14–00:37 — Tools and door-panel screws. The original captions identify a trim-pry tool and a T30 driver for two door-panel screws. The current English opening says “Leave a comment” and omits this information. No screw torque is supplied by the source.
- 00:37–01:06 — Release the door-panel retainers. The presenter uses the pry tool at the panel edge, releases the clips and describes a reverse-facing clip. The precise release direction and supported working position must be confirmed for the actual vehicle; do not infer them from a single frame.
- 01:07–01:30 — Door-handle cable and panel connectors. The source shows the handle-cable retainer and electrical connectors being released, including a white connector latch. It does not establish an approved vehicle power-isolation or reconnection sequence.
- 01:34–01:55 — Factory tweeter removal. The presenter opens the triangular tweeter trim enough to access the rear, identifies four retaining tabs and disconnects the factory tweeter plug.
- 01:56–02:14 — Replacement tweeter placement. The kit leads pass through the tweeter opening; the replacement assembly is seated in the retaining positions. The presenter checks that the rear tabs engage.
- 02:14–02:48 — Retention and the three lead groups. The source describes two supplied screw positions if the assembly is not secure in its clips. It then identifies motor, ambient-light and speaker-audio leads. “Three leads” here refers to lead groups and does not establish a three-terminal pinout. Screw length, torque and compatibility of this supplemental fastening method remain unverified.
- 02:48–03:09 — Speaker connection and tweeter trim. The source describes mating the tweeter audio lead with the original tweeter connector and seating the triangular trim, beginning with its corner and lower retainers. Confirm the actual connector identity and cable clearance.
- 03:10–03:32 — Adapter at the door-control module. The source identifies a five-wire and a three-wire lead, then points to the door-module connection it calls No. 12, identified by a blue marking. No. 12 is the source connection reference; it is not evidence for terminal 12 or a twelve-pin connector. The current English video incorrectly uses both “pin 12” and “12-pin connector.” Obtain the exact socket and cavity map before making this connection.
- 03:32–03:59 — Mating the remaining kit leads. The source shows the adapter branches and tweeter leads being paired. It then identifies the remaining module connections. Connector colors and wire counts alone are insufficient to verify power, polarity or signal assignment.
- 04:00–04:10 — Rotary-drive module. The original video shows the module sticker “206/214/254/223 (4D) — Rotary Drive Module.” The English script mistranslates “4D” as “the lower one.” Use the actual kit label and confirmed connector assignment; do not select a module from that mistranslation.
- 04:12–04:36 — Module placement and harness retention. The presenter uses supplied double-sided tape and wraps the added leads along the original harness to limit rattles. The shown position is a reference; mounting adhesion, moisture protection, window travel, moving-part clearance and prevention of pinching require separate verification.
- 04:36–05:04 — Door-panel connections. The source shows an added white adapter connector paired with the original blue connector and calls for the No. 12 adapter connection, with other original connectors returned to their original locations. It separately names No. 13. These numbers are connection references, not interchangeable plugs or terminal counts.
- 05:06–05:42 — Cable retainer and door-panel installation. The source returns the handle-cable retainer to its locating position and seats the panel clips progressively. Confirm the latch-cable routing, all retainers and the correct assembly procedure for the actual door.
- 05:44–05:55 — Check functions and refit screws. The presenter calls for a function check before finishing with the remaining screws. The recording does not supply a complete acceptance checklist, torque values or a diagnostic-fault scan result.
- 05:55–06:23 — Factory lighting menu. The source describes the home icon, Comfort and Ambient Light, then single-color and multicolor selection. These are translations of the demonstrated Chinese interface; wording and layout may differ by vehicle software. The source compares red, blue and green and says the tweeter lighting follows the factory color selection.
- 06:23–06:52 — Brightness and zones. With multi-zone synchronization enabled, the source demonstrates reducing overall brightness to zero and the tweeter light going out. With synchronization disabled, separate zone controls are shown, including the zone labelled “Indirect.” The presenter attributes tweeter brightness to that control. The current English wording “overall color to zero” is incorrect; the control is brightness. Exact software behavior and left/right operation still need verification.
Effect demonstration
The separate effect-video reference in the original text contains no article identifier. It cannot identify a specific effect recording. V1 includes a lighting-control demonstration near its end, but it does not replace the missing separate effect-video source or prove every product function.
Troubleshooting from the original written guide
The following eight topics preserve the source diagnostic logic. The source does not supply approved electrical isolation, connector-swap conditions or a housing-opening procedure. These checks require confirmation for the actual kit and vehicle before physical troubleshooting.
- Factory ambient lights on both front doors are dark. The source proposes locking the vehicle and allowing a 10-minute sleep period, then checking after unlocking. If the lights return, it attributes the symptom to communication sleep after a factory connector was unplugged while active; this attribution and sleep duration are not independently verified. If they remain dark, compare the adapter connections with the confirmed connection reference. If the adapter arrangement appears correct, the source calls for removing the added adapter connections and restoring the original factory door-control connections. If factory lighting then returns, inspect the adapter location and any backed-out terminals. This is a restoration test, not removal and reinstallation of the same added adapter.
- Factory ambient lighting on only one front door is dark. Compare the left/right added harness and adapter arrangement. Resolve a confirmed difference using the working side as a reference only when both sides use the same compatible kit configuration. If no difference is found, the source proposes the same 10-minute locked sleep and unlock check. It does not establish that every one-sided fault has this cause.
- Neither rotating tweeter extends. Check the motor-lead connections against the exact kit diagram. The source then calls for checking the adapted door-control connection for missing terminals. It supplies no cavity map, so a terminal position must not be guessed.
- Only one rotating tweeter extends. Compare the left/right harness connections. If they match, the source proposes isolating the fault by exchanging three component groups: the rotary-motor module, adapter harness and tweeter assembly. Confirm electrical compatibility and approved isolation/reconnection conditions before such substitutions; the source does not provide them.
- Neither tweeter ambient light turns on. Check the tweeter-light leads, then the factory ambient lighting on the adapted doors. The source says working factory lighting is a prerequisite for the added lighting; it does not prove that a working factory light guarantees the added tweeter will illuminate.
- Only one tweeter ambient light turns on. Compare left/right light-lead and adapter connections. If these match, the source proposes exchanging the tweeter lighting units and adapter harnesses to isolate the fault. The appropriate substitution procedure and component compatibility remain unverified.
- Left/right tweeter colors differ. Select single-color mode and compare red, green and blue for a missing or mixed color channel. Compare the corresponding lighting leads. If the wiring is normal, the source proposes opening the lighting housing to inspect the LED board. It does not specify a tool or an approved opening method; the previously added “with a trim tool” instruction has been removed.
- Left/right lighting effects differ. The source proposes exchanging the complete tweeter heads to see whether the symptom follows a head. If it does, inspect the lighting unit’s alignment with the light-guide body. If alignment is correct, exchange the lighting units to distinguish a lighting-unit fault from a light-guide issue. These are source diagnostic proposals, not a verified instruction to dismantle or interchange an arbitrary variant.
Existing English installation video V1
Review required: the opening omits the tools, No. 12 is mistranslated as a terminal/pin count, 4D is mistranslated, and the brightness wording is incorrect. Chinese navigation and captions remain visible; some English sentences are split mid-phrase across consecutive subtitle time segments. Their timing and readability require review; sampled frames alone do not establish lost text. This file retains its existing source association while subtitle, narration, full-playback and technical review remain open.
