This guide follows the archived GLE167 external-illumination tutorial, source code qPHvFGL. The lighting surrounds the front vent trim. The source category starts at model year 2020; the product image carries a broader “2020–22 Mercedes-Benz GLE/GLS, W167” heading. These are source labels, not approval for every year, market, GLS, steering configuration or other vent variant. Confirm the exact vehicle and supplied kit before installation.

1. Identify the pictured kit

The four numbered groups in the product image are:

  1. Four illuminated front vent trim pieces.
  2. Ambient-lighting connection harness.
  3. Power adapter lead.
  4. Control module.

The source image describes 64-color front vent lighting. Its small module sticker is too unclear to establish the module revision or vehicle configuration. The trim pieces shown here do not establish the wiring or compatibility of an internally illuminated vent or another housing version.

2. Follow the source installation sequence

Read the following numbered steps together with the source diagram. They restore the Chinese captions as searchable English text. The current English diagram still needs correction: the trim-fastening instruction is mistranslated and a screw-refitting instruction is replaced with wire-routing text. Its large caption panels also cover some screw-location evidence.

  1. Pry open the dashboard trim. The first picture shows the starting point at the right-hand end of the dashboard trim panel.
  2. Remove the dashboard trim panel. The next picture shows the long panel detached.
  3. Pry off the vent trim panel. Follow the pictured trim edge and arrow.
  4. Unplug the connector. The source shows the connector behind the removed trim.
  5. Remove the screws at the red-circled positions. Use the original Chinese diagram to identify these positions; the current English caption panel obscures part of this strip. No tightening torque is provided.
  6. Replace the electroplated trim at the factory fixing points. The Chinese caption says to cut off the original “weld points” with diagonal cutters, replace the electroplated component with the supplied product, then secure it using a soldering iron. The pictures mark fixing points on the trim assembly. This is a trim-fastening operation; the source does not instruct the installer to solder electrical wires here. The exact material, heating method, temperature and acceptable finished fixing strength still require technical confirmation before this irreversible operation.
  7. Refit the screws after assembly. This corresponds to the lower assembly strip with red-circled screw positions. The current English image incorrectly places a wire-routing instruction here.
  8. Route the lead from the pictured opening to the footwell-light area. The source identifies the opening beside the removed dashboard/vent assembly.
  9. Remove the front-right footwell lower panel. The demonstration uses a left-hand-drive interior; its front-right position is not evidence that the same side and routing apply to a right-hand-drive vehicle.
  10. Release the pictured retaining clip. Follow the clip photograph under the footwell panel.
  11. Unplug the factory footwell-light connector. The source shows the original light connection at the lower panel.
  12. Connect the supplied adapter to the factory footwell-light connection. The final caption says to mate the supplied adapter plug. Connector polarity, terminal numbers, fuse rating and the complete module/harness connection map are not specified by this diagram; do not infer them from connector appearance.

The source does not supply a complete refitting checklist, power-isolation procedure, coding procedure or torque specifications. Obtain the matching technical instructions for those items before treating this as a complete installation procedure.

3. Compare the pictured result

The photograph shows illuminated surrounds on the four front center vents alongside the factory dashboard and footwell ambient lighting. It also shows the vehicle's lighting menu in Chinese. A still photograph does not verify every advertised color, adjustment response, all vehicle functions or fault-free operation.

4. Troubleshooting from the archived source

  1. One light source shows a different color. Check whether its connecting lead is loose and reconnect the plug. Swap the light-source and connector positions to isolate the fault; replace the damaged light source if necessary.
  2. The lighting at an entire position differs from the system's single-color menu. Check whether a pin at the main harness connection has become loose or detached, then reconnect the plug. Replace a damaged connecting lead if necessary. The source does not give pin numbers or permit selecting terminals by guesswork.
  3. The vent lighting does not illuminate in any color. Check whether the main harness is pinched or damaged and causing a short circuit. Check that the module and factory connectors are fully seated. Replace a damaged main harness or module if necessary.
  4. Factory ambient lighting cannot be adjusted. For this functional check, confirm that the ignition is on and that all factory connectors are seated. This diagnostic instruction does not define the power state for disassembly or reconnection.
  5. Factory ambient lighting works, but the added lighting cannot be adjusted. Check the connection between the footwell-light module and the factory footwell-light lead. Replace a damaged connecting lead or module if necessary.
  6. The problem remains unresolved. Contact your sales representative for technical support.

5. Review required before upload readiness

  • Confirm exact GLE167 model year, market, steering configuration, factory ambient-light equipment, external-illumination trim version and module revision. The broader product-image heading does not approve a GLS or another vent variant.
  • Correct the installation-image captions and placement while keeping the fixing points, screw locations and connector details visible. The written steps above recover the source meaning; the media itself remains unchanged.
  • Confirm the trim fixing material, cutting/heating method and fixing strength, plus panel refitting, harness clearance and connector retention. The source provides no torque or heating specifications.
  • Obtain the matching electrical connection map and safe power-isolation instructions, including polarity, terminals, fuse protection and any required configuration or coding. No numerical values or coding requirement are established here.
  • Verify color synchronization, adjustment, retained factory functions and absence of faults on the exact configuration. The result image provides visual appearance only.

The exact archived body and structure contain three images, no video assets, no attachments and no external video link. There is therefore no source-confirmed film requirement for this article in that snapshot. This does not clear the historical English YouTube-link HOLD or constitute a new public-page verification. Page/mobile review and technical acceptance remain pending.
