Scope and source limits
This guide describes the panoramic sunroof ambient-lighting kit shown in the archived GLE167/GLS167 tutorial. The original body and video introduction identify 2020–2024 vehicles; the product image identifies 2020–2022. These ranges have not been reconciled. Confirm the exact vehicle year, panoramic-roof equipment, factory ambient-lighting configuration and supplied harness/module version before using the procedure. The source describes matching the factory ambient lighting, rather than an independent star projector.
The instructions below recover the demonstrated parts and installation sequence. The source provides no complete wiring diagram, connector pinout, coding procedure or finished technical acceptance record. The current English image and video also contain translation problems described below. This material remains an installation reference pending those checks.
Product image and numbered parts
Use the original component numbers, 01–07. The added English notes in the current picture use a different numbering sequence and must not be treated as additional kit parts.
- 01 — Front and rear sunroof light strips: four strips, arranged as a front/rear pair on each side.
- 02 — Long connection extension cable: connects the sunroof harness to the ambient-lighting module.
- 03 — Module-to-footwell-light power adapter lead: the source label identifies the footwell-light connector; it does not specify connector pins.
- 04 — Rear light-strip extension cables: a pair of extension leads for the rear strips.
- 05 — Front/rear light-strip splitter leads: a pair of branch harnesses. These are cables, not mounting tape.
- 06 — Ambient-lighting module: the original label describes a LIN control module for matching factory ambient lighting. The printed model list is not proof that every listed vehicle, equipment version or existing retrofit is compatible.
- 07 — Double-sided adhesive tape: used to attach the strips at the demonstrated roof edge.
The image advertises 64 colors and a 1.5 m light-strip description. These are source-image claims, not measurements or a verified operating specification for every supplied kit. The film separately calls the rear-strip extension lead “one meter”; that cable description must not be confused with the advertised light-strip length.
Video navigation
The following approximate times refer to the bound installation film, about 3 minutes 47 seconds long. Its five Chinese chapter labels mean harness overview, strip mounting, connections on both sides, extension-cable connection and effect. The last label does not establish that final lighting and vehicle-function tests were completed.
- 00:08–01:37: kit layout, adhesive and splitter harnesses, and the two connection arrangements.
- 01:37–02:24: position and attach the rear and front strips on the demonstrated side.
- 02:24–03:01: connect the front/rear strips and conceal their leads at the roof edge.
- 03:01–03:19: long extension cable, opposite-side branch and A-pillar route toward the footwell.
- 03:19–03:34: existing retrofit versus sunroof-only module connection.
- 03:34–03:47: final roof-edge views. The sampled ending still shows loose cables and a detached overhead light assembly; it is not a finished installation acceptance demonstration.
Demonstrated installation sequence
-
Identify the four strips and lay out the harnesses (approximately 00:08–00:27). Separate the front/rear pair for each side and identify the long extension, the rear extensions and one-to-two splitter leads before positioning parts in the vehicle.
-
Prepare the mounting tape shown with the kit (approximately 00:27–00:43). The video shows tape described as 3M adhesive being applied to the strip. It does not identify an adhesive product number, surface-preparation method, curing time or permissible trimming operation; obtain those details for the actual kit.
-
Arrange each front/rear pair with its splitter and extension (approximately 00:43–01:12). Follow the demonstrated harness layout. A matching plug shape alone does not identify a safe power or signal connection.
-
Identify the applicable electrical arrangement before connecting (approximately 01:12–01:37 and 03:19–03:34). The film describes a branch for an existing compatible ambient-light retrofit and a separate module/footwell adapter arrangement for adding the sunroof lighting alone. See the connection limits below; the early narration contains a conflicting “only adding the air vent” phrase.
-
Orient the rear strip as shown (approximately 01:37–01:51). In the demonstrated vehicle, the strip's cable end faces toward the engine compartment/front of the vehicle. Do not substitute left/right steering-position assumptions for this front/rear orientation.
-
Peel the backing and attach the rear strip to the black flat surface (approximately 01:51–02:22). The video shows the strip being pressed along the flat roof-edge surface beside the sunshade. The source does not document a measured clearance from moving roof parts or drains.
-
Position the front strip using the same demonstrated mounting approach (approximately 02:22–02:24). The film says the front strip is mounted similarly. It does not provide a complete separate procedure for every roof configuration or both vehicle sides.
-
Join the same-side front/rear strips (approximately 02:24–02:55). The installer uses the rear extension lead described as one meter and the one-to-two splitter, mates the shown connectors, conceals the lead under the roof edge and brings it forward to the front strip. The remaining branch is reserved for the long extension cable.
-
Keep the roof mechanism's operation separate from lighting operation (approximately 02:55–03:01). The source refers to the sunroof operating normally. The current English subtitle incorrectly says the “sunroof light strip can operate normally.” This passage does not verify lighting control, every roof position or a completed clearance test on another vehicle.
-
Connect and position the long extension cable (approximately 03:01–03:16). The installer connects a branch at the shown front roof area, conceals the harness along the edge and reserves the opposite connection for the right-side sunroof strip. These are the source's directions for the demonstrated vehicle, not a pin assignment or universal side mapping.
-
Follow the shown route toward the footwell only after confirming the vehicle routing procedure (approximately 03:16–03:19). The source points along the A-pillar toward the footwell. It does not show the approved path relative to airbags, trim clips or moving parts. Obtain the exact vehicle routing information before concealing or securing this lead.
-
Use the confirmed connection arrangement and complete the missing checks (approximately 03:19–03:34). The source identifies the existing compatible retrofit branch or the supplied module/footwell adapter branch. It does not show a complete final electrical readback, module fixing, overhead assembly refit or completed lighting-function check. Record those separately before treating the installation as complete.
Electrical connection limits
- Existing compatible ambient-light retrofit: the ending describes connecting the sunroof light lead to the existing retrofit lighting harness, using an air-vent lighting installation as its example. It does not identify which module versions, connectors or output loads are compatible.
- Sunroof lighting added alone: the ending describes a supplied module adapting at the right-front footwell light in the demonstrated vehicle. Do not generalize that position to right-hand-drive vehicles or other configurations without the exact kit and vehicle wiring information.
- Unresolved source wording: the earlier harness introduction says “only adding the air vent,” while the ending describes “only adding the sunroof ambient lighting.” Confirm which adapter and module are supplied for this sunroof kit; do not select a connection solely from that early phrase or from another tutorial.
The archived wiring-diagram section is empty. Supply voltage, protection/fuse requirements, connector cavities, polarity, circuit isolation, LIN interface details, coding and module settings are not specified. No electrical values or pin assignments have been inferred here.
Checks and troubleshooting information still needed
Before calling the installation complete, obtain and document the vehicle-specific harness/module compatibility, protected power connection, approved cable route and adhesive requirements. Verify that the installed strips, connectors and secured leads do not interfere with sunroof or sunshade movement, and that the original overhead assembly and affected trim/functions are restored. Record the actual lighting response to the vehicle controls; the archived statement about matching factory ambient lighting does not supply the menu or coding procedure.
The original troubleshooting section contains an empty numbered item. There are no verified source remedies for no illumination, incomplete color synchronization, intermittent operation or roof interference. These require the actual kit's wiring and fault information rather than a guessed repair.
The translated image needs a corrected original 01–07 legend, faithful module/footwell/splitter labels and a readable layout. The translated film retains Chinese instructions and contains the mechanical-operation mistranslation above; reading its script and selected frames does not amount to listening to or accepting the complete soundtrack.
