This guide follows the archived installation video for the front air vents with internal illumination. The source calls the product a 64-color illuminated air-vent kit. It demonstrates removal of the dashboard vent assembly, transfer of the original vent controls, routing of the kit harness and connection of the supplied module through a footwell-light adapter.
The archived tutorial identifies GLE167 and GLS167. The video introduction names a GLE W167 and shows a 2020–2022 label; its product illustration also names GLE/GLS W167. These are source descriptions, not confirmation that the same procedure, module or harness fits every GLE/GLS year or configuration. A separate GLS installation is not demonstrated. Confirm the exact vehicle and supplied kit before using this example.
The chapter times below refer to this English video, approximately 3 minutes 47 seconds long. Several sections were slowed during English narration, so its times differ from those of the Chinese source. The video retains Chinese labels and some wording that still needs review.
Parts and tools shown
The source introduction labels four groups: air-vent assemblies, the air-vent power harness, the ambient-lighting module and the footwell-light adapter harness. The demonstration also uses an extension harness. These describe the demonstrated kit, rather than a verified parts list for every configuration.
Tools shown or listed include a plastic trim tool, a T20 driver, a wire feeder and harness tape. A flat-blade tool is used to release the vent-control clips. The English caption calls that tool a “knife”; the sampled picture shows a flat-blade screwdriver. Follow the actual clip and tool shown, and confirm the removal method for the vehicle.
Installation chapters
-
0:24–0:50 — Remove the side panel and vent assembly. Use the plastic trim tool at the demonstrated panel edge, pull the panel outward and disconnect its connectors. The source then uses a T20 driver to remove the surrounding fixing screws so the vent assembly can be removed. Screw torque and vehicle isolation instructions are not supplied in this source.
-
0:50–1:27 — Transfer the original vent controls. Release the two clips of the original vent-control assembly and fit it to the replacement air vent. Align the two corners and seat the clips in the demonstrated inner locations. The source explicitly distinguishes the intended clip position from the adjacent incorrect position. Repeat the transfer on the other side and align the completed assembly for refitting; do not infer clip orientation from the captions alone.
-
1:27–1:55 — Connect the vent harness. The demonstration connects the matching double-ended connectors between the vent components. Of the two connectors left in that illustrated arrangement, one connects to the extension cable and the unused connector is wrapped. This is an example of the supplied harness arrangement, not a connector pinout.
-
1:55–2:35 — Identify the extension lead and module. Lay out the demonstrated module, power-adapter harness and extension harness. The video/script reads a module label containing “GLE/GLS/167 HU6/HU7 CKCP V1.0 2025/01/07”; that label alone does not establish compatibility with a particular head unit. Keep the extension connector tagged “167 front air vent / vent line” at the demonstrated lower-panel position. The tag identifies the lead, not an electrical pin number.
-
2:35–2:57 — Route the harness and refit the vents. Feed the extension through the demonstrated gap and connect it to the reserved vent connector. In the shown arrangement, the remaining three connectors are wrapped. Route the lead through the gap toward the footwell-light area, then refit the vent assembly. Confirm the actual harness route and clearance on the vehicle rather than treating the illustrated branch count as universal.
-
3:03–3:13 — Insert the footwell-light adapter. Disconnect the original blue footwell-light connector and insert the supplied adapter in the demonstrated arrangement, returning the adapter end to the original lamp. The blue connector is a visual reference only; its color does not establish polarity or pin assignment.
-
3:13–3:41 — Connect and secure the module. Open the module housing at its two side clips. The demonstration puts the vent lead into the indicated connector on the side containing four connectors, then connects the footwell-side lead to the port marked “5P.” Match the demonstrated connector orientation on the exact module. “5P” is a port/connector label, not an instruction to use pin 5 or a 5-volt supply. Refit the cover, secure the module and restore the removed parts as shown.
Review required before release
This source ends with reassembly and a closing screen; it does not demonstrate a complete lighting-control or fault-check procedure. Its written troubleshooting section is empty. Confirm the exact module and harness version, vehicle/configuration coverage, electrical diagram, isolation procedure, connector assignments, fixing specifications and final control/function checks before technical acceptance. Do not infer CAN wiring, voltage, coding or DIP settings from labels or from another tutorial.
The existing English video still needs corrections to the omitted introductory harness labels, the tool term, repeated module/lead wording and Chinese graphics. Some sentences span multiple subtitle cues, including a very short “here.” cue; their reading time and narration alignment require review without assuming that words were lost. Full source-audio and English voiceover listening and continuous audiovisual review remain outstanding.
