This guide covers the crystal hand rest fitted above the center-console media controls in the archived GLE167 / GLS167 tutorial, CKCP source archive. The hand rest, its mounting base and the surrounding center-console assembly are separate parts in the demonstration.

The product picture describes a third-generation, 11-color illuminated hand rest for “20–22” GLE / GLS models. The linked installation video instead introduces a “64-color starlight crystal hand rest.” These are different source descriptions; the archive does not establish that the pictured kit and the demonstrated lighting version are interchangeable. Confirm the exact hand-rest kit, module, vehicle model year and console configuration before using the demonstration for your vehicle. Neither description verifies every GLE167 / GLS167 configuration.

Product picture and part identification

Archived kit picture: removal tool, crystal hand rest and wired mounting base

The original picture identifies the components from left to right:

  1. 01 — Removal tool. The video also mentions a trim pry tool and a supplied T30 tool; the picture is not a complete tool list.
  2. 02 — Crystal hand rest. This is the clear upper piece, not a tray or the complete center armrest.
  3. 03 — Mounting base with harness. The connector leads are visible, but the picture does not identify their pin assignments.

The English image's added notes place 02 before 01. Use the numbered identification above when comparing the pictured parts. The image's year and color labels are archived product statements, not a fitment or lighting test result.

Watch the existing English installation video

This is the English version associated with the exact original installation-video link saved in this tutorial. The video runs for approximately 1 minute 49 seconds. Its English captions and saved narration script still need correction: “new gray” at the opening should refer to starlight, and the backing removed from the module's fastening material is hook-and-loop adhesive backing, not wiring-harness tape. Some captions are offset from the corresponding visible action. The time ranges below are approximate navigation aids covering groups of actions.

Demonstrated sequence

  1. Original hand rest and base — approximately 0:04–0:14. The installer opens the original hand-rest cover with a pry tool, uses the supplied T30 tool to remove two fixing screws, and lifts off the hand-rest base. The film gives the tool size and screw count, but no tightening torque or approved trim-release force.

  2. Center-console access — approximately 0:14–0:27. The video identifies two retaining clips on the media-control panel and shows the panel lifted upward. The installer disconnects two harness connectors at this stage, removes four center-console armrest fixing screws with the T30 tool, and removes the assembly. The source then describes another two harness connectors during removal of that assembly; this is a separate stage, not a statement that the entire job has only two connectors.

  3. Extension-harness route — approximately 0:27–0:39. The supplied crystal-hand-rest extension cable is passed through the center-console trim area and routed toward the front passenger footwell light. The installer tucks the harness away. The source does not provide a complete routing drawing or an alternative route for a different console or steering configuration.

  4. Module connections — approximately 0:39–0:48. The installer opens the supplied module housing, exposes the circuit board, connects the extension cable and footwell-light adapter cable to the module's matching connectors, and closes the housing. This documents the demonstrated kit only. The archive contains no pinout, electrical rating or instruction to alter wire positions; obtain the exact module and harness instructions if your kit differs.

  5. Footwell-light adapter and module mounting — approximately 0:48–0:72. The film identifies one retaining clip in the middle of the footwell-light trim panel, shows the panel removed and the light connector unplugged, and attaches supplied hook-and-loop material to the module. The adapter connects to the original footwell-light connector. The installer removes the hook-and-loop adhesive backing, fastens the module to the panel, reconnects the adapter's other end to the original light, and refits the panel. The diagram and vehicle electrical-isolation procedure are not supplied in this archive.

  6. Hand-rest connection and harness clearance — approximately 0:72–0:87. The hand-rest plug connects to the extension harness, and surplus harness is tucked beneath the media-control panel. The source specifically shows the cable exiting toward the rear-facing side of the hand-rest mounting opening so it is not trapped beneath the base. The base fixing screws are tightened. The source gives no torque value; its cable-route demonstration does not establish clearance for every kit or console.

  7. Light guide and crystal upper piece — approximately 0:87–0:95. The installer fits the light-guide plate, removes the adhesive backing around the base, aligns the crystal hand rest and presses it into place. The source does not specify adhesive preparation, cure time or a retention test.

Lighting demonstration and outstanding information

The video introduction shows an installed crystal hand rest. Its closing captions describe synchronization with the original ambient lighting and installation without cutting wires. These are source claims for the demonstrated product, not verified results for the third-generation 11-color picture or every 64-color kit. The archived page has no separate completed-installation effect section, complete color test or measured functional acceptance record.

Before treating this as a complete installation procedure, obtain the exact kit's vehicle applicability, connector diagram, module revision, vehicle electrical-isolation instructions, fastener specifications and adhesive instructions. For a fit, cable-clearance or lighting issue, provide the vehicle model/year, kit label, console and base photos, module/harness connector photos and the relevant video time. The original troubleshooting chapter contains no confirmed fault diagnosis or repair procedure, so no reset, coding or wire modification is prescribed here.
