Product and vehicle reference

This tutorial concerns the replacement tweeter assemblies at the front-door mirror corners. The source calls them “hourglass tweeters”: the name describes the paired cone-shaped styling of the speaker assembly shown in the video. It does not refer to a timer or a separate dashboard accessory.

The archived article identifies CLS218 and is filed under 2012–2018 CLS tutorials. The video opening graphic states 2012–2017 and contains both CLS and GLS labels with W218. Those conflicting labels do not establish GLS compatibility or resolve the model-year range. Confirm the exact vehicle, audio equipment, door trim, left- or right-hand-drive arrangement and supplied kit version before using this reference.

The opening product graphic mentions 64 colors, while the installation explanation distinguishes factory three-color lighting from a retrofitted 12-color system. Keep those connection variants separate; the graphic alone does not establish which version is supplied or how many colors the installed system supports.

English video

The video shows one door and its tweeter, lighting leads and associated lighting module. Chinese captions remain visible, and the English opening calls the vehicle “CLS-S.” Use the source-supported descriptions below for navigation. This reference does not supply a complete wiring diagram or certify the installation.

Parts and tools identifiable in the source

The demonstration includes the original mirror-corner tweeter, the replacement hourglass-style tweeter assembly, a speaker connection lead, a separate lighting lead, retaining clips, and a lighting module and branched lead for the 12-color example. A trim pry tool and a T30 tool are mentioned in the source explanation. Connector ends and branch counts are not electrical pin numbers. The source does not provide a complete kit inventory, speaker specification, isolation procedure or tightening torques.

Source-based procedure and video navigation

The times below refer to the bound video and group its actions for easier reading. They describe the demonstrated arrangement; verify the applicable vehicle and kit instructions before carrying out trim or electrical work.

  1. 00:00–00:29 — Release the original tweeter and access the screws. The source shows a pry tool at the mirror-corner tweeter trim, releasing its retaining clips and disconnecting the original speaker lead. The explanation then identifies a T30 tool and two screws below. Confirm the actual screw locations and trim arrangement on the vehicle; no tightening specification is supplied.

  2. 00:30–00:40 — Identify the lower side screw. Two screw positions appear on the door's side trim. The demonstration says to remove the lower one, then work the pry tool into the side edge. This instruction does not mean that both side screws should be removed. The applicable service information must establish the full set of fasteners and clip-release locations.

  3. 00:42–00:52 — Release and support the door panel. The demonstrator loosens and draws the panel outward, releases the handle-related attachment and disconnects the attached connectors. The source does not give a complete connector-latch or handle-cable procedure. Identify and release each applicable attachment without relying on the English phrase “pull the handle outward” as a complete service instruction.

  4. 00:52–01:09 — Separate the speaker and lighting connections. The replacement assembly is shown with two connection leads: one for the speaker and one for illumination. The source describes joining the speaker lead to the original speaker connection. This does not identify wire polarity, impedance, individual pins or compatibility with every original audio system.

  5. 01:09–01:29 — Select the correct lighting variant. The narration distinguishes factory three-color lighting from a retrofitted 12-color system. For the three-color example it describes a splice into the original lighting circuit. It does not identify the exact wires, pins, splice method or protection requirements. Do not cut or splice a vehicle harness from this description alone; obtain the verified diagram for the exact kit and vehicle. A universal no-cut or plug-and-play claim is not supported.

  6. 01:29–01:40 — Identify the 12-color example's branch. The source refers to a lighting lead labeled “handle light,” with a branch ending in two female connectors. Match the actual lead labels and connector shapes to the supplied kit documentation. Two connector ends do not establish a two-pin connector or a general-purpose power connection.

  7. 01:40–01:52 — Follow the shown RGB3 arrangement only for the matching kit. The source caption and module label identify RGB3. The demonstration connects one branch end to that port and the spare end to the tweeter's lighting lead. RGB3 is a label on the module shown, not a universal socket assignment. Confirm the module revision and approved adapter mapping; the source does not give a pinout, supply voltage or fuse specification.

  8. 01:52–02:05 — Restore the retaining clips and refit. The explanation says to return the original retaining clip and clip the assembly into place, then restore the removed parts. The rear of the tweeter and an orange retaining clip are visible. This short ending does not show every panel attachment, connector restoration, wire-clearance check or completed functional test. Use the applicable refit instructions and inspect the finished installation before treating the work as complete.

Results and troubleshooting information

The archived article contains headings for product images, results and troubleshooting but no still images or written fault cases. The bound video provides the installation reference. Its closing branding is not evidence of a complete sound, lighting, color-control, door-function or refit test.

If the connector, lighting version, module label or trim arrangement differs, obtain the matching instructions before proceeding. Exact electrical mapping, isolation, clip retention, routing clearances, any programming requirements and finished-operation checks remain to be documented. No fault diagnosis or coding value has been inferred from another CLS tutorial.
