Scope and preparation

The source illustrates fitting a rear headliner speaker assembly with lighting to the demonstrated Mercedes-Benz S-Class W223. The Chinese image calls it a “rear headliner Burmester speaker.” The photographs do not establish the product's manufacturer or original-equipment status.

This reference translates the illustrated sequence. It is incomplete for installation: the source does not provide a complete parts list, exact vehicle and kit compatibility, a downloadable cutting template, full cutting datums and clearance limits, wiring pinout, power-isolation instructions, or a verified cable route. Confirm those details for the actual vehicle and kit before cutting the headliner or connecting wiring. The ruler reading and connector positions below describe the photographed setup only.

1. Parts and illustrated guide

The photographs show the rear speaker and lighting assembly, a headliner mounting bracket, a paper cutting template, a protective sheet, audio and extension cables, a lighting module, and two screws identified by the source as T20. This is a description of visible items, not a complete supplied-kit inventory. The demonstrated tools include a small knife, a trim pry tool, a rigid wire-pulling tool, and a driver used on the two T20 screws.

This source-photo supplement restores the English meanings of the illustrated steps. Original template markings are retained in the photos. Full cutting dimensions, kit wiring and vehicle tests remain unconfirmed.

01 Align the template

alignment

Headliner seam + center alignment

The source marks the headliner seam and the midpoint between the rear vanity mirrors. The ruler shows 18.5 cm in this demonstration.

Template legend

Brown: first cutting area. Blue: second trimming area. Red: limit position.

The datum and full template dimensions are not specified. This is not a universal cutting dimension.

02 Cut and protect the sunshade

protective sheet

Follow the illustrated brown line

Secure the cutting template with double-sided tape. The source shows a small knife cutting along the brown line.

After the initial cut, insert a protective sheet behind the opening, then continue along the brown line. Protect the sunroof sunshade while cutting.

Blade depth, sheet material and clearances are not specified.

03 Fit the mounting bracket

mounting bracket

Insert, align, then secure

The source shows inserting and aligning the headliner mounting bracket. If it does not fit, the source says to continue trimming the opening.

Secure the bracket with the two T20 screws shown. No tightening torque or additional trimming allowance is given.

04 Access the center speaker

trim pry tool

audio route

Use the illustrated trim pry tool

Lift the center speaker cover with a trim pry tool, then lift the center speaker.

Use a rigid wire-pulling tool to guide the audio cable beneath the speaker.

The dashed line shows direction toward the vehicle's right side, not a complete protected route.

05 Keep audio and SOS distinct

audio connector

RIGHT connector: audio adapter

The source identifies the center speaker's right-side connector as the audio connection.

LEFT connector: SOS; no audio signal

The source explicitly states that the left-side connector serves SOS and provides no audio signal.

Left/right follow the photographed orientation. Connector IDs and pinout are not supplied.

06 Connect lighting and audio

footwell adapter

rear assembly connections

Front-right footwell light adapter

The source shows adapting the lighting module to the front-right footwell light.

Run the extension cable inside the headliner. At the rear assembly, connect the lighting cable and audio cable shown by the circled connectors.

Pinout, isolation, protected routing and final assembly fastening are not provided.

07 Demonstrated appearance

Rear headliner speaker assembly

The final photograph shows the rear speaker assembly in place with its center light illuminated.

The photograph does not verify audio output, SOS operation, lighting controls, sunshade movement, final retention or fault-free operation.

2. Detailed source notes

A. Align the template and form the opening

  1. The source marks the headliner seam alignment position and the center between the rear vanity mirror positions. The ruler in the demonstration shows a midpoint reading of 18.5 cm. Align the paper template's marked center alignment line with the illustrated center. The source does not specify the full measurement datum, template dimensions, or applicability to other roof configurations; 18.5 cm is not a verified universal cutting dimension.
  2. Secure the back of the cutting template with double-sided tape. The source says to use a small knife to cut along the brown line. Its template legend identifies brown as the first cutting area, blue as the second trimming area, and the red line as the limit position. These are distinct markings; the source does not authorize treating the red limit as the cutting line.
  3. After the initial cut, the source shows inserting a protective sheet behind the cut area to protect the sunroof sunshade, then continuing along the brown line. Its warning is to protect the sunshade while cutting. The sheet material, safe blade depth, insertion clearance, and precise trimming limits are not specified.
  4. The next photograph shows the cut opening. Insert and align the headliner mounting bracket; if it does not fit, the source says to continue trimming the opening. This reference supplies no additional trimming allowance or permission to exceed the template's limit. The source then shows securing the bracket with the two T20 screws. No tightening torque is given.

B. Take the audio connection from the center speaker

  1. Use the illustrated trim pry tool to lift the center dashboard speaker cover, then lift the center speaker. The source does not specify the release points, speaker fasteners, or removal depth.
  2. The source shows a rigid wire-pulling tool guiding the audio cable through beneath the center speaker. The dashed line illustrates a route toward the vehicle's right side; it does not document a complete protected route or trim-removal sequence.
  3. Connect the audio adapter cable at the center speaker's right-side audio connector in the photographed orientation. The source explicitly states that the left-side connector is for SOS and has no audio signal. The source does not provide connector part numbers or a pinout. Do not substitute the SOS connection for the illustrated audio connection or infer a connector position for a different vehicle configuration.

C. Connect lighting and bring the cables to the rear assembly

  1. The source shows the lighting module connected through an adapter at the front-right footwell light. “Front-right” follows the source's vehicle position; it is not a verified driver-side or passenger-side instruction for every market. The required connector identity, power characteristics, and circuit protection are not documented.
  2. Run the extension cable inside the headliner, following the illustrated direction toward the rear speaker opening. The photographs show a suggested direction along the roof and right-side trim, but do not provide airbag clearance, sunshade clearance, cable retention, or pinch-protection instructions.
  3. At the rear assembly, connect the lighting cable and audio cable shown by the circled connectors. The source caption means “Connect the lighting cable and audio cable”; it does not specify the final mounting or retention method for the speaker assembly.

3. Demonstrated result

The final photograph shows the rear headliner speaker assembly in place with its center light illuminated. This is an appearance reference. It does not verify sound output, lighting controls, emergency-call function, sunshade movement, secure final mounting, fault-free operation, or sleep-current behavior.

4. Troubleshooting and missing checks

The source's separate troubleshooting heading contains no diagnostic procedure. The only explicit audio-connector note in the illustrated sequence is that the demonstrated left center-speaker connector serves SOS and provides no audio signal; the audio adapter is shown at the right connector. Exact connector identification remains necessary before any connection is changed.

A complete vehicle- and kit-specific reference is still needed for the cutting template and measurement datums, protected routing, electrical connections, final assembly fastening, trim refitting, and function and fault checks. No source-bound video or PDF is supplied in this tutorial's archived package.

5. Historical image reference

The earlier translated long image is retained for historical comparison. It contains known caption omissions and mistranslations, including the product name, template markings, trim tool, and the SOS connector warning. Use the corrected English photo guide above for those source meanings; the earlier image remains uncorrected.
