Original English guide from the CKCP tutorial centre. Check your vehicle, equipment and connector version before installation.

Confirm the exact vehicle, model year, door-panel layout, kit revision and installed ambient-light system before fitting the covers. The written overview lists 2019–2024 across the five model families in the title, while the parts image is labelled 2019–2025 A-Class W177. The door-panel and connector illustrations are examples; they do not confirm identical installation details for every listed model.

The covers replace the original speaker grilles and use adapter wiring with a matching ambient-light system. The illustrated installation includes removal of plastic welded points and, on some versions, cutting or trimming the door-panel opening. A plug-in electrical connection does not mean that the entire installation requires no modification. Color and breathing effects depend on the installed lighting system and supplied kit.

2. Door-panel removal and cover fitting

2.1 Front door-panel example

In the illustrated door, the two front door-panel retaining screws use a T30 driver. Release the lower and side retaining clips with a plastic trim tool. The top edge is pulled horizontally, and the locating clip is released in the arrow direction shown. Release the inner door-handle cable from its holder and retaining mechanism, then disconnect the door-control connectors identified as 5 and 6 in the example. These numbers identify connectors in the illustrated assembly, not individual wire terminals.

The source-photo reader below uses T30, horizontal withdrawal, inner door-handle cable and door-controller connector terminology from the original captions. Earlier English rasters contain incorrect wording and are retained as clearly labelled historical links rather than the default illustrations.

2.2 Cover replacement and kit revisions

The next illustration shows removal of the original plastic grille, removal of the circled plastic welded points with diagonal cutters, and release of the arrow-marked tabs with a flathead screwdriver. It also shows local edge trimming for the illustrated cover version. Confirm whether the supplied revision needs this work before altering the panel; a later version may use a different fit.

The rear tweeter cover shown at the bottom can be replaced directly only where the matching opening and cover are already present.

2.3 Rear tweeter opening: A-Class example only

The comparison image identifies a change in the new A-Class around April 2020: the illustrated later door has no rear tweeter opening. Adding one would require drilling/cutting, and the installation information explicitly does not recommend that installation. Confirm the actual door layout rather than using this date as a fitment rule across markets or other models. This example does not instruct you to drill a missing tweeter opening.

Rear tweeter provision · A-Class comparison only

Unchanged source illustration 4 reader 1

Top photograph: new A-Class, after the April 2020 change. A source-specific comparison label; not a verified market/build/trim boundary and not a rule for other models or midrange covers.

Bottom photograph: new A-Class, before the April 2020 change. The illustration compares rear tweeter provision, not approval for all A-Class vehicles.

The source states that the changed rear door has no tweeter provision; adding it would require making an opening, and the source does not recommend that installation. Keep this warning separate from the midrange-cover work. No drilling template, dimensions or generic missing-opening installation instruction is provided.

2.4 Illustrated grille-opening modification

For the illustrated panel, the next image shows cutting along the inner side of the red dotted boundary while retaining the outer attachment area. It shows working on the straight sections before the corners and removing excess plastic and burrs. The additional dashed corner line indicates clearance for the illuminated cover. Confirm that this opening and cover match your panel before making an irreversible cut. The image does not supply a universal cutting template or dimensions.

Figure 4 and source cutting description

Unchanged source illustration 5 reader 3

Figure 4 The number identifies this source diagram and its retained red markings, not an additional universal step.

The source describes cutting on the inner side of the red dotted boundary in Figure 1 and retaining the outer area for the replacement cover’s attachment feet.

The source describes the left thumb against the back of the blade, clockwise movement, and the right thumb and index finger holding the blade body.

The source describes a slow clockwise scoring motion along the inner edge, including the corners shown in Figure 2, and claims this reduces damage.

The source describes following the blade-scored line with a small flathead screwdriver and working back and forth to release the cover for replacement.

The source describes working on the straight sections first and finishing the corners afterward, referring to Figure 3.

The source describes additional trimming at the red dashed corner in Figure 4 and removing excess plastic to avoid damage to the LED unit during fitting. This preserves the source description, including its blade-handling and damage-reduction claims. It is not an accepted cutting safety procedure or a dimensional template. Exact kit/panel fit, clearance and safe technique remain unverified.

3. Ambient-light connections and setup

Factory ambient lighting: the example connects the cover adapter at front door-control connector 6. Confirm the matching connector on the actual vehicle; the rear-door adapter arrangement is shown separately. Basic installation is described as a direct adapter connection followed by adjusting the ambient-light color and brightness in the vehicle controls. If factory ambient-light positions stop working, diagnostic addressing/initialization may still be required as described in Section 4.

Retrofitted ambient lighting: connect the cover lighting to the matching retrofitted ambient-light connector in the door. Confirm that the kit and connector match the installed system.

4. Troubleshooting

  1. Factory-lighting version will not illuminate: fully reconnect the door wiring and refit all door panels before checking the illuminated covers.
  2. One front cover is off while the others work: after confirming matching adapters, compare the left and right front adapter harnesses by swapping them. A fault that moves with the harness indicates a harness problem. If it remains at the same cover, inspect the LED unit and its connection before replacing the unit.
  3. The four covers work but some factory ambient-light positions are off: the installation information calls for Mercedes-Benz XENTRY addressing/initialization of the ambient-light module. After that procedure, close all doors and lock the vehicle for the stated five-minute sleep period. Have the installer confirm the diagnostic procedure for the vehicle; the basic plug-in description is not a guarantee that diagnostics will never be needed.
  4. Lighting is weak or dim: check that the LED unit is correctly seated and has not come loose; secure it properly.
